Can't jump the fuel pump

I've torn out the dash and I'm trying to go to a push button starter and switches for the fuel pump, ignition system and accesories, but I can't get the fuel pump to work or at least I can't hear the fuel pump turning on. Am I doing something wrong? I've tried to jump it by taking a patch wire from the battery to the blue wire coming out of the gas tank housing and grounding the black wire, but nothing? Any suggestions?

Also, I was going to put a push button starter on by taking a feed right from the battery to the starter solenoid with a push button in between. Is there any problems by doing it this way?

If this is a street car, then let the ECU handle the fuel pump as it should.

A manual switch is very dangerous in the even of an accident.

it's for a track car. i've taken off the key ignition and i'd like to put switches in. How would i switch things on through the ECU as you suggest?

In that case then you can switch the fuel pump directly. Applying 12V to the blue wire at the fuel pump connector should run the pump. If it doesn't, then there's something wrong with the pump.

how about all the other wires on the key ignition switch. which of those do i need to make switches for? or do i just need to supply 12v to the two coils and that's it?

Do you have the wiring diagrams? They show the wires at the ignition switch which you will need to apply 12V to. Off the top of my head, IGN and ACC are all that is required.

Look at the wiring schematics.

You have about six wires coming and going from the ignition switch . The pure black is the power wire directly from the battery.

Jumper it to the black/white wire and now the main relay and circuit opening relay are energized.

Jumper the pure black to the Black/Red and the starter turns over is the interlock clutch sw is made.

You should know the engine has to be running for the fuel pump to work. Key to On does not do the trick. See the wiring schematic.

Fuel pump........it has a connector. On the half of the connector on the fuel pump side, the black/white wire is power to the pump. ON the chassis side of the connector it's the pure Blue wire that feeds that black/white.

Fuel pump runs IF the engine is running.......if the key is ON and the fuel pump check connector is jumpered...........if the key is HELD to START.

Pump does NOT run with the key to merely ON and engine not running.

what does the white/red wire do? It seems to have power too. Right now, I can get the car to run if I connect the white/red wire as the power source to the panel and the push button to the starter wire. Then I have the IG1 and IG2 wires connected to a powered switch as well as the ACC wire.

Is there a problem with this set up?
