cant get my car to turn over

I just put in my 91 j spec into my 87 t2. I took all emission crap off and also got block off plates . I am pretty sure the reason my car wont start cause of my starter . I cant seem to remember how to hook it back up . If I try to turn her over she just clicks and thats it . Does anybody know or have pics of the right way to connect the starter. Also do I need any of these solenoiids .Air by pass solenoid , accelerated warm up solenoid , what about the four connected to all the vacume lines like the swicthing solenoid , PRC what ever that is and last but not least the relief solenoid valve

Whack the starter with a nice rubber mallet. It could be stuck. Does the motor turn by hand?

If it just clicks and all of your lights go dim, it could either be the battery, or the starter is actually "stuck." Hit the starter somewhat lightly and see if it will turn over then. I just had to get mine rebuilt because it would slow start, then stick occasionally. I might could get a pic on how to connect it back up for you though, but try the hammer first.

As close as I can come: In the small picture, the positive lead from the battery is shown with its rubber boot over the end, so its not too clear. The negative lead from the battery should be going to the long bolt that holds the starter on. Its not shown in the depiction.

Have you tried to push or roll start it? My started on my truck gets jammed all the time and if hitting it with a mallet doesn't get it, I can always push start it, and that always gets the starter back to normal. After that it will start fine for a few months. good luck.

incase you don't know what I mean by roll starting....if parked facing down a hill, turn key to running position, put it in first, press teh clutch in and roll until you hit around 5-10MPH and dump the clutch. Also works well in reverse if you are facing up the hill. I actually had to do this to my rex just the other day.
