Can't find oil leak

Well I have a fairly small oil leak. I believe it is in the oil filler neck or close to it(really hard to see in there). There is oil on top of the block(where it says MAZDA) and I take this as a good sign, and should mean that its not an internal leak. Is this correct? Thanks.

I would take off the oil filter & from there you can unbolt the oild filter housing (easy just 2 or three 10mm Nuts) pop that off there is 2 O'rings there. If the leak is where you are saying I am willing to bet these are the culprit.

G luck

You can get them from your local Mazda dealer they are real cheap. On a turbo car this job is a major pain in the ***. Just remember when taking the 2 10mm bolts out that your looking at it upside down so it's opposite of the usual righty tighty lefty loosey.

hey do you know what there are called at the Mazda dealer? I need to fix my oil leak too. Do I just go there and ask for "o-rings" or do they have a specified size or a part #?

Thanks

I'd say the oil leak is one of the orings for the oil passage that runs the length of the block on the left side. At each seam, where the housing meet, there is a rubber oring. That oil passage is right in the vicinity of the logo MAZDA. There is no fix for this type of leak other than a rebuild.

Damn, I hope its not that. My engine was just rebuilt too before I bought it. Wasn't a "rotary specialist" though so who knows. Guess I will just add oil all the time if it is. But how would I need a rebuild if I am leaking above the engine block? That would mean the leak is not internal correct?

Clean thoroughly. Look for oil seeping out of the crack between the rear side housing and the rear rotor housing at the seam. Yes it can come from this area. I'll try to find a picture. On the other hand it could be another thing. You and the car are there. I'm here.

I had the same problem. I though it was the o-rings too, replaced them still a leak. Though it was what hailers was talking about, then i found out it was my rear eccentric oil seal. I took off the little plate covering the tranny and part of the rear rotor housing, and saw oil everywhere sparying up. It then was seeping through the little plate onto my rotor housing. It was definately bad seal. I am just awaiting to get my darn clutch alignment tool. arg.

I paid around $3 I think. I get 20% off all parts because the auto parts store I work at does business w/them.
