Can't determine the sound

Okay so about a day ago I was driving my 87 na and as i was passing up over 2.5k I noticed this very wierd sound. Its kind of a skreeching/rubbing rubber sound. Well I tested all different ways with the clutch in and out of gear and such and then revving then with the clutch in and in gear and I am pretty sure its in the engine. I was thinking it was the belts but I looked at them and they seem in good shape and there is no squealing at idle it only gets loud after 2.5k then gets louder as the revs climb higher. Im not sure if it could still be the belts or if maybe something is messed up in the PS/AC/AP, the PS which I disabled because of a faulty solenoid is pretty much just sitting there and I am going to remove it soon. But let me know what you guys think could be wrong even if i look like an idiot for it just being the belts it doesn't sound like any other belts ive heard.

maybe it's a bearing in one of the pulleys

go to napa and get a stetoscope... I bought mine for $10cdn...it should come with a long rod, instead of the flat thing the doc puts on your back. Place the rod on all your pulleys especially your alternator...it should becomee plainly obvious after that.

Good luck.

mine made that noise and it ended up being my alternator belt (air pump eliminated) since i only have the single pulley

Well I just tried some belt dressing and it did nothing. I looked at the belts and they appear to be fine except the one that goes around the air pump I believe seems almost like the belt is too wide but just by a little. I tried listening and I think the sound is either coming from the PS or the Air pump. Im gonna get rid of the PS and AC soon and I hope it isnt the air pump cuz i want my 5/6th ports even though I think they are stuck right now. Of course I could always just go turbo....

I NEED YOUR HELP QUICKLY!!!!!!! Okay i removed the PS and AC belts and sound is still made, I watched the air pump belt as i revved it by hand and the air pump belt starts vibrating as the rpms climb. I took a closer look and it appears that instead of the pulleys being parallel the air pumps right side seems to go in towards the engine causing the belt to rub on the side some and not seat all the way on the pulley. I have searched the manuals and it says nothing about adjusting the angle of it, what bolt would adjust this angle? If any or what can I do to fix this?

remove the airpump and ACV (the thing connected to it on the block) and block off the hole you made in the block. aka rocket, i wouldn't recomend you doing this because CA gets pissed about that sort of thing.
