can't decide what to do

I am currently trying to decide if Ishould sell one of my first gens to get a secound gen. I currently own two first gens a 1979 with what I think is the GS model and a 1984 GSL. The car I would be buying is a 1987 GXL 5-speed with 150K and, the motor maybe going out on it, because the seller says he goes through a quart of oil a week and it somkes when it first starts in the morning. When I drove the car I did not see or smell any smoke, all of the electronics worked, the engine reved nicely with no dreaded 3500 RPM studder, the engine bay looked clean, no major dents, a couple of paint chips on the front bumper and the interior was okay. He was asking a thousand for the car, which I told him I would think about it. The car I would be selling is a 1984 GSL 5-speed with 170k on it, It has a new clutch, clutch master and slave cylinder, it is currently in the middle of a carb rebuild with new floats. before the rebiuld it had blue smoke both in the engine bay and out the exaust, the factory A/C works, under the hood it is caked in oil along with what it think is fresh oil puddleing ontop of the engine, and the exauhst does not look like it secured very well. Since I have owned the GSL Ihave not driven it 50 miles yet and I have had it since october of '05, so I am not too attached to it. my question is should I get rid of the GSL and an get the FC or should I just stay with what I have?

(I do not have pics of the FC, and the GSL is the black one in my avatar)

thanks,

Rotor Nut

I already posted this in the first gen section, I am just trying to see what some of the general opinions or recommendations, or stuff to look out for from the secound gen section. I already read the FAQ about buying an FC and the only major problems with it is the smoke, which I did not see even though it has been sitting for a day, and it burns alot of oil. It started up fine and ran nicely also.

I love the FB but ive never had one myslef, my dad had one but it was when i was too young to really remember it or know anything about it. But i thought it was cool thats for sure. I DO have an FC and I love it its always work and money but everytime i see it makes me smile. so i think considering you have 2 FB you should get an FC and have a go at that for a while.

If you feel like a rebuild (since the GXL sounds like it needs it), then by all means, branch out.

i have owned 5 fb's and iam on my 5th fc. I currently own a 85 gsl and a 88t2 fully modded. And when i first got into rotarys back in 89 i had a first gen 81base. I will say that my opinions vary on both cars. The first gens are a quality little sports car, and to me the best rotary is the 12a for reliability. However when you get into a fc you realize that th efb is alot more underpowered than its rival and is not as enjoyable to drive to alot of people.

I love both but there are pro's and cons about each. BUt one thing is that you will see very qiuckly how the 2 differ in many ways when you own both. Especially with the quirky ways the fc has.
