As long as you have the negative battery cable connected and assure that the positive isn't going to touch anything, yes.

That is probably a good idea!! And I was just going to remove the starter. Guess that would be kina dangerous!

I thought the starter was needed to provide the current to the engine's electrical components to make it start.

What happens to an immobiliser if you have no starter?
