Can you convert tailights for vert.????????
I have a 88 vert. and I just got a set of S5 taillights for a coupe, what do I have to do to convert them? Can you just drill a hole for the lock or will you be hitting a reverse light or????? I would go look but my car is in the body shop at the moment.

Ah, cool, I am making siome custom lights for my vert. out of an extra pair of old S4 lights, so far I have definitly ruined the old S4 lights...........BUT I will be finished with the first one soon and will post a pic to get reactions, it will be sort of like an S5 tail but a little cooler IMO.

The problem is the vert keyhole would be removed, so how do you open the trunk if the popper cable breaks?
Here's someone that's done the mod. Notice he has no way to open the trunk from the rear: ( www.rx7hotpage.com )
And here's a pic of the OEM keyhole:

It seems I could just drill a hole in the coupe light and then it would be like OEM in that respect, I would just have to drill carefully.

I would leave the keyhole covered, but take measurements to drill it LATER if the remote cable ever broke. You could also add another "hidden" cable coming out the bottom of the drain hole where the spare tire well would be in a coupe (the place to hold the spare is actually still there, just covered with plywood and carpeting!) IF you were worried about the cable issue. Could be risky though.

I was wondering why it seemed to have the extra place for a spare, I guess it was cheaper to just use a regular floor and add strength to it rather than make a new floor pan for the verts. I do have precise hole saws that I used to use for installing spoilers at my last job, I may just do the hole anyway, BUT I do plan to have electronic actuation of the trunk, so maybe that would give me two ways already, electronic and cable.......hmmm, maybe no hole..... after I hook up the alarm, I guess if I really needed to, I could pull interior to get at the trunk.
