Can Someone give me some advise?

can i get some advise please.
i am new to 2nd gens and i was wondering what some of u think of this car...

----88 vert has 97000 on it. I bought it and thought I would fix up both my cars but now it has become to expensive for both.

It wasnt running till I replaced the fuel pump. now it will crank but quickly fillls up the interior of the car with exhaust and it sounds like the motor is chockeing.

I now have a piece to replace the old cats with and see if that is the problem.

Car is blue with Blue leather interior. Hood is silver because I swapped it for the one off my other car but paint still shines on it. it was owned by a litttle old man who is a local doctor my wifes knows.

paint is all good except the pass. fender and headlight cover and the small space on the roof line where targa meets.

has cd/tape deck and all the factory options of that year. BBS wheels are in good shape. roof has a 1 inch spot that is seperating on bith sides but top is in fairly good shape. might be easy to fix??

I just cant keep the car and really need to sell it rather than work on it and the other one I have also.

$1000-----

what do yall think is up with it? just swap the cat?..
please help
thanks parker

$1000 for a clean vert is not bad, but I am not sure you have adequately diagnosed the total problem with the engine. Yeah, you probably need a cat -- it could be plugged and that will kill your engine (see "Mr. Silver" in my sig). But other than the body/paint condition (really one of your last concerns) you haven't given us any idea of the other issues with the car. For instance:

Compression Test
Careful inspection of electrical system, both output and physical conditioning of the wiring.
Tires, shocks, suspension.

I know some guys are really into the BBS wheels so that could be a bonus.

It may be a cool car, but on the other hand, there may be lots of things ready to go wrong which could cost you a big pile of money. That's okay as long as you know what you are getting into.

My philosophy is that buying a 15+ year old rotary is always a "creative" choice because you can pretty much count on stuff breaking and that vigilant care, attention and maintenance are going to be more a part of your car owner agenda with an old rotary as compared to, say, a new Honda daily driver. But when you own and operate a rotary, you are driving a unique car. And that is the appeal.

Do some more homework on the mechanical. You can get the price down, down, down, when you point out stuff that is wrong and what it would cost to fix it.

Good luck!

If this is a repost, sorry. The damn server timed out on my first response.

$1000 is maybe okay but I don't think you've adequately diagnosed the mechanical issues of the car.

Replacing the cat is probably not a bad idea.

Issues with the body/interior/paint are on of your last concerns, in my opinion. However any problems in those areas are great things to bitch about to the Seller to get the price down.

You better do a compression check.

You sound too anxious to buy this car. That could end up making this much more expensive than you planned.

Good luck.

yes i am pretty hyped up about it, and from what he has told me the cat is clugged. i am not familiar with the 13b but even if the engine need some work in which i am expecting. but besides the point i am taking time and waiting i have pmed the guy and asked him to do a compression test so i am doing the research and not just jumping into things. thanks for your concern and assistence.
has anyone had a problem similar to this?
thanks
