I'm looking into trading my 92 gsx off for a rx7. I have just bought a new atv and I need something that will tow atleast 700lbs. Can an n/a rx7 do it? I'd rather stick with a 5 speed. Am I looking for trouble here?

I have had a number of people give me the "sell it and buy a truck" story but I am not buying a truck.

 

why get rid of the GSX? you will be greatly disappointed in the power difference...Im sure an Rx7 would do it, but the gas mileage would suck, and it would be even slower...lol, I could imagine taking my car up to redline pulling a trailer hahaha

 

I towed my parts car with my Sport. The GXL parts car weighs around 2800 pounds and ad in 180 for my friend steering.

I am sure you could do it. Just be careful with the clutch.

 

The reason I want to "maybe" trade my car off is simple, awd is expensive! I'm looking at a driveshaft re-balance, another rear end (new ring and pinion), new front brakes (the 1st half of 92's had single piston"small" brakes and I'm sick of warping rotors) a new exhaust mani, new stearing rack, and misc other parts.

That and rotaries are so neat!

An n/a RX-7 can do it. I've pulled another RX-7 before and it wasnt that bad. I figured my car was going to explode but everything was fine. My car was n/a and had a dying engine. A turbocharged RX-7 will be even better for the job since they have more tourque and power.

 

I figured as much. I got a good laugh when I called satan to ask what the towing capacity of a 92 gsx was. Quote the tech "hmm I'm not sure what you could put back there that would be that heavy" me: "well I was going to pull a small trailer with it" tech: "well as long as it is only one of the small pop-up ones I thing you'll be fine" me: "I don't mean camping trailer, I mean utility trailer!" tech: "oh well, I'm not sure you can pull one of those or not"

camper=1k+ lbs
atv+trailer=around 800lbs

 

LOL, It prolly can pull a mobile home, but not a atv trailer. LOL, thats funny

 

The question isn't "can it pull an ATV and trailer." The question is "WHERE can it pull an ATV and trailer?" I would bet anything that if you tried to climb a hill of any significant size with the rex while pulling something behind it you will have probs.

 

In the owners manual it clearly says DO NOT TOW ANYTHING with your car! You can blow the motor! so unless you do not like your car go ahead!

 

The FC has a maximum tow load of 500lbs
