Can low compression cause a poor idle?
Hey all. i've had a problem with my TII not idleing right so i took it to mazda to have them repair the idle. on the service write-up it states ": customers car won't idle" later the same day the phone rings and it's mazda telling me to come and pickup the car. I say you fixxed the idle ? he says no, he says they ran a compression check and the front rotor is loosing compression.. I say "WHAT"
why would you run a compression check to repair a idle problem(vacum) and what does the engine comprerssion have to do with engine idle ? I asked to speak to the person who did the work and asked him " how does engine compression effect the engine idle" ? explain it to me please.... he couldn't .
it makes no sense to me then said $ 4,800 dollors for a new engine and $ 120.00
dollors your charging me to fix the idle and you didn't do that. i'm pissed now.
Does that sound right engine compression effecting engine idle. If the compression is gone doesn't that mean a apex seal ??? the engine runs good and if a apex seal failure happened the engine would not run,, bastards.....

Yes, poor compression can cause a poor idle. What were your compression numbers?
Also, in the future when you post, please use a more descriptive thread title. I have changed your title to better reflect your question.

yes, low compression can make your car idle poorly, when it gets low enough the rest of the driving range will also suffer.
Compression is what makes the engine work. The engine is a big air pump, and compression is a measure of how efficiently the engine moves air...therefore compression checks measure the engine's internal wear and efficiency. To say that you're surprised an engine runs poorly with low compression, would be like saying you're surprised your tires don't perform well with no air pressure in them, or that your stereo doesnt sound good when you're not supplying full and proper voltage to run it.

Not purposley trying to conflict with you kev, but even if you have like 0 compression wouldn't the engine still take in the same amount of air, it just would not ignite and pass through to the exhaust manifold?
Or is it becuase there is no compression that it can't suck any air in on the intake stroke?

No sucking action, no pressure between the different rotors, it'd move alittle air in there sort of like a fan, but not enough to get a combustion.
