The reason being is that I like this Mazda factory front chin you can get for them. What's required to bolt the 89-92 front bumper on an 87?

Yes but, the side molding is not exactly the same. I don't think it looks too bad though.
This is the '89-'91 front cap kinda hanging onto my '87 TII parts car:

I have to second Mike here. I'm going to do it this weekend. I just don't know yet if the actual bumper, the resinated plastic behind the cover is the same from the 86-88 to the 89-91. We'll see. I've been collecting molding for this project with a few spares. I think it needs the molding, Mike thinks different. Personal taste. Watch the clips on the molding, tough to get out in one piece. Don't rip at the molding if you take it off, gently pry it off.

I'm pretty sure that the stock chin spoiler from the later cars fits the 86-88. I've been trying to find one and a few people have told me they bolt right up. Yeah, so if any of you guys have an 89-91 and you put a body kit on and don't need that chin spoiler I'll buy it off ya. Later

My suggestion, assuming you pulled the front bumper skin from a parts car, is to also pull the side moldings and rear bumper skin. Side moldings re-attach with double stick molding tape you can get at any Auto body paint supply store.
My goal when I do mods is to make it look like it's always looked that way. Unless you make the side moldings consistant, it's going to look patched.
However, if you just looking for function, it mounts fine otherwise.
