can i get away without setting the endplay???

im tired of buying little stupid things to put a motor together..and im wondering if i can not worry about setting endplay because all i did was change internal seals and put it back together no hard parts were changed. i dont quit understand why endplay would need to be adjusted unless building a brand new motor where tolerances might be affected.

Um yea you want to set the endplay. No you cant get away without it, why would you want to waste all the time building a motor and then skip a simple step???????????? How many other steps did you skip???????//

Exactly... follow every step in the FSM.

Some steps are OK to modify or change based on what well known engine builders recommend... for instance putting ultra black rtv on the coolant sealing surface of used rotor housings to fill small pits or using hylomar to hold in the coolant rings instead of pet jelly.

Other than stuff like that, don't take any liberties with your interpretation of the FSM. It'll bite you in the ***.

You need to check it every time a stack is assembled.

In my limited experience I've found that IF you replace the thrust bearings and the motor was in good condition (you were able to use all original parts) that the original spacer puts it right in spec... but you still need to check it to know!

the reason you want to check endplay is the new seals actually are thicker than the old compressed gaskets and make the housings further apart. it might not be a lot but the endplay is measured in thousandths.

Endplay will change as the engine wears. It needs to be adjusted anytime an engine put together.

Most of the time, you'll end up with a V spacer. So if you are "tired of buying little stupid things" then just get several spacers on each side of V. They are cheap.

The whole procedure takes about 5 minutes, so I don't see what the problem is? All the rebuild videos and tutorials mention endplay adjustment so it's best to buy a few spacers (hell, just buy a new set of front bearings and a V spacer) when you buy the gasket set.

Um, no. The housings mate flush against each other. The o-rings crush completely in the grooves. It's actually the torrington bearing and bearing plate that wear.
