Exclamation can i fit a 15" rim on the back for slicks?

i went out and tried to measure today.... but not having a set of 15" rims on hand i couldnt finish my test.

I want to run slicks when i drag... i can get sets of 15" slicks all day for really cheap on ebay. 16" slicks are priced and sized weird.

So if a can run 15s then i could get 2 steelie spare tire rims from something like a ford ranger and go at it..... right?

as long as the bolt pattern is the same and the rim has at least a 7" width. A 15x6 won't work with slicks that big.

Go look at some old Mercury or Lincoln 15" wheels. They came from the factory with a 15x7 rim sometimes. I had a couple guys bring in some 15x7 OEM ford wheels to mount 30x9.5-15 truck tires on and they worked great.

You just need that added wheel width to mount the tire to.

My 15x8 wheels with 5" backspacing fit with a 235/60-15 MT ET Street Drag radial. I rolled the lips and they BARELY touch when I launch. Not enough to do any damage, I can just see a faint line in the sidewall. Nothing like the 275/50-15 BFG Drag Radials I just took off. They rubbed horribly.

I ordered a set of 7" wheels from Centerline with the same backspacing. Moving the outside edge of the rim in one inch will give me all the clearance I need. I should be able to run a 28x9 slick on that wheel. They should be here next week.

This is with the old tires. No pics of the new ones yet. I will get some when I have them mounted onthe replacement wheels.
