Can I "add" ABS to my car ?

I got 91 non-turbo and package A, so nope, no ABS.

Just wondering is it "possible" to add one to it? I dont mind working on my car day n night. but before I start buying parts I just wanna know can this be done (or did anybody here actually did it before)

I tried to search but no results came up.

Thanks a bunch.

it can be done. probably more trouble than its worth though. you will need the pump, harness, ecu and the lines.

With enough money, skill and time you probably can do it. But--big but--from a practical standpoint, don't even consider it. Check out the parts catalog and see what you would need to add and replace. For instance, you will need a non-leaking ABS pump. You can buy used, but chances are it will leak. Most of them apparently eventually leak. And I understand a new pump costs a couple of $K. You will need to install all the wiring to the wheels, the sensors on the hubs, the ABS computer, and most likely you will need to replace some of the existing hard lines. and maybe the MC and proportioning valve. By the time you finish such a project, you will have more money in the car than you will ever get out of it.

But hey, if you want a challenging project and have the dough, go for it.

agreed. the 2nd gen abs is pretty poor from what i've heard. ABS is only really used in panic situations not during normal driving or under most track conditions. I would hope most 7 drivers pay attention enough attention to not have to panic stop

you could, but the pump mounts to the body with a bracket, the frame in a NON abs car doesnt have the holes to mount the bracket.

ABS works just fine, on track or off, its 3 channel, so the rears are together. pump is rebuildable, there is a local guy to us that does it, i guess there is an o ring that gets changed or something

lot of stuff to round up, install is involved

I can't fathom wanting ABS...especially on a sports car.

On a whim I pulled everything from a parts car to add ABS. However, never gotten around to installing it. I'll sell it to anyone that asks as too many projects....................
