Can blank keys for the FD be cut to work in an FC?

The OEM key, and efini Keys are slightly thicker. If you use a OEM or efini key, and your locks are very tight, they may not go in, however if the locks are worn (as most are) then the key will go in stiff for the first couple of times, but loosen over time. The other draw back to the OEM and efini keys are that they are about 1/4 inch longer than the OEM FC key. This then requires (if you really want it to fit right) to cut off the first 1/4 inch of the key (usually where the indent ends on the blank key).

The aftermarket keys are fine however being thinner, but may still have the length issue.

And BTW: your signature is too long... 6 line max including blank lines... please fix it before a admin sees it and deletes it.

 

I've found that the normal blanks they sell just about everywhere are thicker and longer. I had to bust out the dremel, last time I got a new spare made, to grind off some excess material.

This was actually a big issue for me when I got new keys made for a Talon a few years back. I had to drive all over town to find a place that had an old school grinder that thinned the key. That was before I owned a dremel tool.

 

eh, when i got a key made, the key it's self is like 3 1/2 inches long, right... but only a tiny bit actually turns anything, i made it too thin.. fucked up my ignition bad, now i can start it with any thin piece of metal.. so be carefull i mean... uhh ... *please dont steal my car*
