can an alternator from a gen 1 work on a gen 2?

I have a gen 1 alternator laying around and my gen 2 alt is going fast. I just spent all of my extra cash on my car.
does anyone know where I could get a rebuild kit dirt cheap for the alt?
I would like to upgrade to a series 55 alt as it has higher output. but I will stick with the series 4 if the S5 rebuild kit won't work on the S4 alt.

not sure.. i know a 3rd gen alt fits on a 2g, with slight modification.. It's like, 100 amps too.. Actually, I hear they're "rated" at 100 amps, but many people have tested them and they produce a good bit more.. Of course, that'll be a pretty penny, i'd imagine.
