SC Camaro SS radiator and fan in 7?

Found a 2002 Camaro SS radiator and Fan assembly for $75, stuff is just priced low, used to be an old customer at the shop...has anyone heard of using one of these??

I pulled some specs just off oreilly auto parts website and the part numbers were the exact same for the radiators, i know this doesn't mean they will fit the exact same as there is probably a little more universal fit to the murray radiator..but same exact core size, with a 3200cfm, will that be enough? i've always had to watch the temperatures in SC, and I would think a 2000 vehicle's radiator would be a lot better than this old design..Thoughts?

lol?

no.

Are the mounts for the rad the same? If not do you want to take the time to fab mounts? What are the dimensions?

To answer your question, no, never heard of anyone doing this rad swap. Doesn't mean it can't be done though I suppose. Yes 3200cfms are enough.

Even so... A trip to the junkyard will net you a more suitable fan/shroud in terms of fitment, for a fraction of that price.

The radiator is a different story though. Unless it is made out of aluminum, I doubt there will be any noticeable gains, and it most likely will not fit either. Stick with a stock one or get a Koyo or Corksport. Money much better spent. If there was a cheaper alternative, someone would have found it by now.

Think about a radiator... What's it made of?
Aluminum or brass tubing and fins, some end tanks...

So how has the newer radiator changed?
The answer is, it hasn't. There is no difference in the technology. They haven't come out with a metal that will magically suck the heat outta coolant.

If you're dead set on putting the radiator in, measure it and build some brackets to put it in.

Probably the biggest issue will be the heater return line that is built into the lower radiator hose bung on the stock unit...the Camaro rad doesn't have that.
Other than that, no real reason not to do it if you want.

I dont know how you came up with the same specs for the radiators but here
camaro part number 432421
http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/se...000&vi=1361450
1988 t2 part number 433181
http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/se...988&vi=1192351
So far as I can tel you have 3 major problems with this radiator.
1) upper hose needs to be on the drivers side and our cars it comes out of the passenger side. thermostat housing would make this a nightmare
2) it has no mounting bolt holes. It uses the dumbass chevy clip in design (good luck with your mounts)
3) the radiator angles the opposite way in a camaro so the cap sits at a 45 degree angle right where you dont want it to.

no to mention its probably got different sized hose nipples.
And its probably less efficient than a stock replacement rx7 radiator.

You can get it for 75 bucks.
at auto zone a new rx7 radiator is 189.99 with a LIFETIME warranty. you break it, they swap it. Plus your stock fan will work with it. Your s4 alternator isnt going to run that fan btw. you'll need a 149.99 s5 alternator.

A new camaro radiator is about the same so if this one gets damaged your out the 75 bucks and you gotta put another camaro one in.

Buy a new s4 rad if you need one, youll be better for it.

well i dont know bout the radiator but i do know that those ls1 fans push some damn air for sure . i have a 08 tbss w/ls2 as the daily and did the ls1 efan conversion from stock clutch fan my temps dropped bout 15 degrees on average . i've installed a jeep liberty stock efan in my 7. the fan is 18" alone. the shroud for sure covers the radiator no problem along with the top of it for a cleaner look. just had to trim where the hose areas are and make some brackets

Volvos also use some nice fans (and I'm a big advocate of their relay/speed control as well).
If the several variations don't happen to fit your rad, the fan itself has a flange and is bolted to the shroud, making modification quite simple.
Here's one (on the right) next to a Taurus unit:

Note the nice air bypass flaps.

I think I drank to much when I actually posted that stuff...because I looked the next day, and the dimensions were several inches off.. needless to say. I actually found my fan assembly which was off a chrysler new yorker. fan dimensions are awesome, dual nippon denso fans, just swapped over to the hayden automatic thermal fan switch. putting in a second thermostat gauge since apparently the factory one is crap. I snapped a quick photo of the fan assembly. its about 23"W shroud, by about 16 or 17" but been doing very well.

vs

•Core Size: 16 3/4 x 21 5/8 x 1 1/4

i like them Volvo fans its amazing how much space the old shroud and fan take up. granted the stock works awesome and never had a problem except when the clutch went out (just free spun after warmup ). i just plan on doing v-mount down the road and the fan was free to me anyway . heres one more i found of my fan
