Caliper swap

Is it possible to swap the 4 piston claipers into a 90 GTU? I thought that the GTU should have he 4 pistons, but the one I looked at does not.

Thanks,

alex

Also, is it possible to use 4-piston calipers on the rear or does it mess up proportioning?

brakes

yeh it easy i used the whole spindle off a turboII (same brakes) and just swaped them over and blead them 1 hour , dont know if its worth doing the back brakes but if you have them go ahead. if you do both get a turbo or gxl brake booster and resavore

89-91 GTU is the base model, so no 4piston calipers

88 GTU does.

Go grab a set off of any manual transmission GXL.

Great thanks.

One more question,

is it a direct bolt on? or more complex?

Direct swap for 89-91s

Little more complex for 86-88s

GTUs has 4 piston, no RX-7 came with dual piston.

Great thanx for the help.

Now, after I get the car, I will get the 4 pistons and start stopping faster.

Don't forget the hardlines off of the 4 piston calipers, you need those too.

No, you don't want to use the 4 piston calipers on the rear, 1. it would totally throw off your proportioning, and 2, most of the braking is done by the front anyway.

Hell, on my racecar, I've got a proportioning valve and had to limit rear bias to keep the back end from getting loose under hard braking.
