I have a convertible, I cut the roof off the coupe, cut around the plates for the cage slid right out. If you have a convertible you can get the cage to weezzzle in perfectly with a little elbow grease. So i (Me, Myself) would not say its scrap you know how much it cost to get one made im sure.
Karack and I both posted links to pictures and diagrams. Unfortunately, it just isn't very common to have a roll cage with a full interior because both the safety and handling are better without the interior.

That would be weird, because you don't need 200 lbs to have a good sounding stereo, personally I just upgrade the stock parts to better components. Fortunately for me, my car is the non-powered type, so basically the base 5-lug version, so I have weight savings on having everything manual. Then I'll have more weight savings when I remove the stock catback and install the corksport catback that I have. A/C is already gone so even more weight gone. So honestly, I don't think weight is going to be too much of a problem.

Interesting...
I think I remember reading that the power windows actually weigh less than manual. its only a catback, not due how much weight that will really save. A cage will add more weight than u save from the exhaust, but being a base w/o amenities u should be@ about avg weight for an fc +/-

Yes, my 88 coupe has an SCCA IT cage with NASCAR style side bars, but not much interior.
Pics without the SFI pads installed:

How does your door looks like due the side bars?

As is standard with the NASCAR style side bars, the inside panel of the door is cut out. An aluminum panel is then put in place to satisfy safety rules.
If the bars do not bow out like you see in the picture of my car, then they do not offer as much protection and there is not much space for the driver.
In the case of my car, I still have the windows that can be pulled up and down, but no cranks. I am not sure if this is legal for racing or not, but I have yet to put my car back on the track so it doesn't matter right now.

Cool.
At the moment i am thinking about something like rxspeed7 posted for the future but with somekind of harness bar at the back.
But that rollbar goes all the way to the floor right? Don't you get problems with the seat?

The cage or roll bar will be going into an 87 Coupe, that is if I decide to do one. At the moment I think a Roll bar of some sort would be the right idea for a street car that occasionally sees track time. But the question is how much interior would I have to compromise to have one.
I'e seen and fabbed a few complete cages in trucks and cars taht maintained the full interior. Even seen a very few that once they were installed, the inerior was instlled OVER the cage so you couldn't even see the cage. Very work and precision intensive and costly to have it done.
To address your question. You won't have to lose much if any interior.

Notice how the seat back rests against the horizontal bar for better support. This was originally required in SCCA, but most of the composite seats were designed to have some flexing space. If you have metal seats, then you definitely want to do this. Also notice how the harness is attached to the bar rather than the floor. The SCCA diagrams show how to safely mount the harness like this.
There should also be a bar running under the dash, but you can't really see it in those pictures. You can see it better in the first picture that I posted of my cage.
A little bit of overkill on the trunk mounting, but I bet you have a nice solid place to mount the fuel cell straps.

I weighed it at the time but i forget the number, i'm gunna estimate from what remember, (i installed it as one piece) probably 100lbs.
car weighs 2800lbs with me and fluids. no spare tire, no stereo, no heater, no blower. steel hood.
I figure i did pretty good job with it for using a drill press, grinder and a 110volt welder.
