The ACV is just a hunk of metal. The things that do all the work are the solenoids.

i see, well the guy who owned the car before me cut off the main black 2 wire plug for it and there are some wires bundled up and i was not sure what that plug was called, so would that be the split air plug or the port air solenoid plug?

Normally, there are 2 black or white plugs w/ 2 wires each. One goes to the split air solenoid, which is threaded into the back half of the ACV. And one goes to the port air solenoid, which is threaded into the front half of the ACV.

The port air solenoid is basically useless, but the split air solenoid is important, so make sure you hook at least it back up.

Sorry, but the ACV functions are controlled on the whole by the vacuum lines going to it. The Split air solenoid is a fifth gear only solenoid (I've never seen a emissons test done in fifth gear), and the Port air has marginal effect on anything.

The vacuum lines go to the Switching and Relief solenoids on the vacuum rack on the left side of the engine.

I can pass emissions with both Port Split air solenoid plugs cut off/disconnected etc. Wanna see the figures?

Yeah, I know, but it seemed to me that he was talking about the wires that actually run to the ACV. And that was the case apparently.

I didn't want to add unnecessary information about the switching and relief solenoids since they're no where near the ACV.
