A/C Clutch will not engage, anything obvious

I just bought an 88 TII. When I go to turn the A/C on the clutch on the compressor will not engage. Is there anything obvious I should be looking for?? Thanks in advance for the help.

I remember my honda had a safety switch on it that would not allow the compressor to go on if the pressure was too low. I dono about rx7s but pretty safe to say the same.

Absolutely, And if your freon is too low, it will not turn on. Gonna need a charge...

Had the same problem recently. Jumped power from the battery to the compressor to make sure it was working properly and then serviced with freon. Troubleshot the problem to the A/C main relay located forward of radiator on drivers side. Mazda parts rep said the relay is no longer available so I disassembled the relay cleaned the contacts and cleaned the rest with electronics cleaner and it works fine. A/C is working great!

9 times out of 10, the problem is low freon level - the AC systems get old, and eventually spring leaks. Electrical problems (see above) can happen, but that's rare.

My button on the logicon was broken so my a/c would not work. I simply rewired the swtich and now it works fine.

You can even use freeze12 a replacement for R12. Don't have to convert anything over to 134 either. Lemme find the website...

http://www.freeze12.com/

There's one for ya...

Just make sure to plug any leak in the system that there is before charging obviously...

Just buy it and put your name is as a shop or somthing.

The freeze 12 costs about $5 a can, and the license costs $15 at the ASE web site. The stuff I get is from Checker auto.

Also, check the 'cigar' or 'cigarette' fuse. The A/C is wired thru it.

As far as I know, you do need a license. But hey, if you can get around it, no problem. I got the license, and it has come in quite handy.

I get ther stuff all day, no license, even after cosulting with AC shops.

I would bet that the Freeze12 license is a SCAM.

Its not a Freeze 12 license. Its a license offered to people bt ASE in order to comply with the Montreal accord. It allows you to buy all refigerant products, Freeze12, R12, etc...Of course anyone can buy R134a. Scam? I doubt it, especially if ASE is involved. They are the most prominent governing body for automotive mechanics in the U.S. You dont get there by scamming people.

I see.

Well the first i heard of rhw license was here, and I thought it was for freeze12 only.

That sounded fishy.

If that were the case, I would have to agree.
