Question A/C Blower motor?

Recently bot an 86 Sport Coupe with A/C. The blower seems to put out very little air, but I do not know how much is normal. I do not have another to compare it to.

I really do not want to buy a new blower motor, install it and discover the original was ok. So, is there a way to test the blower? Is there something else that could prevent it from blowing hard?

As I move the A/C slider from zero to full blast there is little or no air coming from the vents untill I am at least 3/4 of the way to full blast and at full blast it puts out only a breeze, not a roar, like on modern cars.

Any suggestions? Discussion?

Thanks

Yeah. Just go to the wrecking yard. Buy the housing that the blower motor bolts to. There are electronic parts attached to that housing that effect the blower speed and force. I thought it was my Logicon for the longest time. Swapped several. SAme results. The wiring diagram didn't make that much sense to me because I could not located some of the relays and resistors, until it finaly dawned on me those part were attached to the top and back of the blower housing. Its a lot easier to take out of the car than I originally thought. Paid maybe ten bucks for the housing by itself. Blower blows great now. Its probably not the blower or the Logicon slider that is the problem. Go for the blower housing.

No its not hard. I thought it would be hard, so I sat around for a year plus before taking action. Swapped the blower motor with no change. Finaly pulled one fromt the wreck yard and it blows hard now.

My 87 manual as you know lacks a little bit in some areas, and info on that blower motor and housing is one. I think the 89 manual has a lot more info on the heater/blower mtr. I think I can change it out in a half hour or so. Not the bitch I thought it was going to be.

Then again you can get unlucky and get a bad one from the yard. I rejected a couple because the resistor near the air inlet looked crummy.

Thanks HAILERS. I have a donor car that I will be changing the housing in, I know it works since it was running at one time, and the fan worked quite well..

If your blower motor is still running it is usually one of two problems, failure of the power transistor,or the motor resistor. Both are located on the heater blower.

Welllllll......at least you'd get more volume. By the way, on the jpg I marked one out of two parts right. I'd be nice to just change those two items, except you have to remove the housing to do so. No time saved.

it is a very easy swap, you just have to get upside on the passenger seat to remove some nuts

Just be carefull when removing those from the wrecking yard. Some wierd critters like perhaps SNAKES and SPIDERS like making a home there. I been to some yards like this and sometimes I am scared to even pop the hood, afraid a King Cobra is gonna have a go at me like a jack-in-the-box.

Hehe,
Kidding, but stay alert.

A simple possible cause can be the connector plug on the high speed relay right next to the fan. Check and see if it's burnt.
