A/C belt removal

i know that taking the AC belt off of a piston engine helps performance in a minor way. my AC needs to be filled on my 86 FC and i was considering just removing the whole AC unit. is this any different than on a piston driven engine? will it improve anything? or am i just as good leaving it in and just never using it?

No it doesn't. The losses from spinning a belt and pulley are extremely small compared to the engine's output.

No, there's nothing special about it.

Minor weight reduction. That's it.

or am i just as good leaving it in and just never using it?
You could always fix it...

I love my AC. Bought the car without an AC belt. Put one on. Cold air! Yay!

Yeah, just recharge it.
