MS Buying a vert with a top with no window

Hey guys, I am getting ready to buy an 1989 Convertible. The top was replaced sometime ago, and this top doesn't have a back window. It is a solid canvas top. I have never seen a convertible top without a window. My question is can I buy a back window and have it installed in this top, or will it require a whole new top?

I don't see how thats legal in any way to make a top like that? If theres no seems to put a window in, trying to cut the top to add a window will look like a hack job

I've seen a couple of tops for early British sports cars that came without rear windows but the intention was that your old rear frame/window would be installed when the top was sold and fitted.
Any competent automotive sewing shop should easily be able to fix your issue.

Note that I said "easily", not "cheaply" because that sort of craftsmanship comes at a price.
However, if it's a quality top and fits well, it may be worth the money compared to a less expensive unit that costs a fortune to make fit.

I was wondering about the legality of the solid top.

Lots of panel vans and trucks lack rear windows, I'd imagine that with side mirrors, it's probably legal in many places.
Sketchy, but legal.

most of the replacement tops you have to cut the window yourself

cutting a top in is pretty difficult, you'll have better luck on the miata forum as to how people have done it. There are some creative ways there. example: https://www.miata.net/garage/rear_window/index.html
