Buying an rx7

Hello everyone! I might buy myself an '89 turbo II on saturday, and I need advice bout the car.

The car seems pretty nice and works fine, but it idles pretty rough when warm. It does start nicely, so I don't think it's the apex seals. It pulls nice and doesn't have that jerkiness at ~3800rpm. The owner thought that it might be the MAF being dirty but what do you guys think? The car has 240k km's, but the engine was rebuilt at some point.

I'll post a link to the website if someone would like to see pics.

How to buy a rx7.

Here you go man this is a great link on what to look for when buying a 2nd gen rx7.

http://fc3spro.com/TECH/h2b.html

I am not to sure why it runs rough when its warmed up...
But my suggestion is make sure you do a compression test. Do not buy the car unless you have those numbers. The link above will cover everything else you have to check. I am sure that some of the other forum members will be more helpfull answering your question to why it idles rough when its warmed up.

Good luck, and I hope everything is good with the car.

Thanks for your answer Already read the guide, and found it to be excellent. The only prob is that I probably can't make a compression test before buying it..

Edit: Nwm, found a guide http://www.teamfc3s.org/info/articles/compression.html

edit: It doesn't run rough all the time, I'll know better after saturday

I read that guide to doing a compression test you posted... That is a brutal method of making it suitable rotary tester... "YANK OUT THE NEEDLE WITH PLIERS??!!" I dont know why he said that. Most testers come with a little tool that lets you remove the valve( In a less caveman like aproach.. LOL).

Well, you're right about that test

The prob is that RX7's are really rare in finland, and there's probably just one shop that really knows rotaries, or has the equipment to work on em. The seller lives some 300km away from me and he hasn't seen the bike either. I wouldn't like to go that far away, transporting the bike in a van just to look at the car. The idea was to make a swap if we find each others vehicles appropriate.

I might take the risk, and check the compression after buying the car..
