To buy or not to buy a rx-7? NEED HELP!

Hi guys, well as the title states, Im really thinking of getting a 2nd Gen rx-7, I loved the car since I was little but I only found out what a rotary engine is this year, (laugh all you want lol). I read, watched videos and really put some thought into getting this car BUT internet is so dumb becuase 99% of the people are against rotary engines...so I need help from people who HAVE the damn car in the first place lol. What do you guys think, is this a good choice for just a summer fun car, is it reliable like they say or gives you problems and becomes a money pit, can you guys give me your pros and cons on this car? Any advice would be helpful

Any car that is as old as the rx7 is will have problems.
it doesnt mean its a money pit, its just old age.
and also people call it a money pit because they drop alot of money into the mods.
Also it is a reliable car, you just have to maintain it right like every other car out there.
It is a summer fun car, i love my rx7.
But it isnt the best on gas.

I hope you realize that you are posting on an RX7 Site,so people will be Biased and Say"oh Ya!..go for it..it's a great car",or"It's a Piece of ****.I sold it.I blew the engine!"..In My opinion, the car is What you "want it to be".It can be a good reliable car,if you Maintain it..it can be a Piece of ****,if you drive the living Crap out of it and think that a 20 year old Part will survive the Beating..If you start off with ****,you 'll be sinking your money into it.If you Start off with a Well maintained Car,you will Be OK,BUT you may want to make it Even Better!!..that is the "twist" to these Cars. They do not Satisfy you!!!..you get a good car,and you just want to keep adding parts,to make it an EXCELLENT car..somewhere along the Way you may blow the Bi-Jesus out of the engine, end up having To sell all the **** that Made the car "Get *****",and have to start all over again!!..Really,it's Not for the Faint-hearted..If you have 1000 bucks and think that IS my Budget,go and Buy an MX6 or God-Forbid!,A Honda!..but if you would like to expand your Mechanical abilities, and have patience and a Bit of Money that you "don't really need" then By all means "WELCOME TO THE CLUB"...I am Broke, since buying My FIRST N/A..I have gone through Parts cars like a Crack *****..but,Dammit!,I wouldn't trade my Car for anything!..except a Couple good Psychiatric sessions!..Cheers,STYX!~

As long as you go into this with the right mindset....you'll be fine. This car will need attention, and you will have to stretch yourself to learn how to fix and diagnose problems as they come (and they will most definitely come). As long as you have the right attitude you will love every second (or most of the seconds) you spend driving and working on this car. Theres nothing else like it out there.

if you have a basic mechanical know how and can do a little research you'll be fine. like everyone else said, you have a little trouble now and then due to age. the bad rap comes from people modifying their 7s without doing the research to get the job done right. i'm currently driving my 2nd rx7, this one is bone stock and no matter how hard i drive it, it keeps running perfect.

My 2g gets regular tune ups every 2,000 miles, but I am religious like that. Change the oil, oil filter, air filter, add some seafoam or mmo to the gas to clean the injectors and I am golden, I also change the fuel filter at LEAST annually.

I have 220,000+ miles and my car runs strong. I beat on it regularly too.

Yeah i wanted one for about 6 years before i got one, never looked back. Sure it cost me a fair bit of money but I wouldn't change it. Doesn't matter if you don't know that much about em, you will learn fast enough!

I didn't bought it to be my daily but this is now.
I owned a bit less than 15 cars, and this is as reliable as others... oh maybe not, top reliable was my Miata... easy win!
Mine slept 3 years in grass and other animals livin' in, it's now working like a charm with no major expense on it. And for a 21 yo car!
Beside the fuel economy side it's... a bit more reliable than my former Xedos 6 (a saloon MX-6 with 2.0L V6 sold in Europe and JDM)... for wich people said "oh Mazda, that's reliable as other japanase car", but no.

Buy it, don't fear the difference!
