bumper support to clear intercooler

I recently installed a 13b-re into my fc complete with an ebay intercooler. Which by the way the total cost including reinfoced silicone connectors, t clamps and a piping kit was around 340 dollars.

This obviosly required removal of the plastic bumper support.

Has anyone fabricated a steal bumbper support. I was think a couple of 1/2 inch steel plates bolten in place of the original brackets, with tubular steel supports welded on to come foreward far enough to clear the intercooler, and a couple of tubular steel peices the length of the original bumper support bent to take the form of the bumper support and welded together. This should be much stronger than the original peice and could be made easily enough.

Please give me your opinions, ideas.

Thanks.

The bumper support is steel reinforced fiberglass, not plastic, and I removed mine altogether...

Yeah, so did I, I see this as being not a good thing. Fiberglass, plastic, close enough.

If you get in a serios high speed accident with an Rx7 then chances are both you and the car are fucked.

The point is I don't want someones 10 MPH parking lot mistake to result in my car being totaled.

This is a fairly strait foreward project, that should cost no more than 50 dollars for the materials, and would likley result in the car and the driver being safer than stock. It would certainly stiffen the frame some too.

If someone has done something like this before, or has any ideas please post.

do a thread search for "greddy fmic install" with my username and you'll see how I modified the stock support to fit with the core. It's still pretty strong but not as strong as an unmodified one. better than nothing I suppose.
