building S5 engine, can it go in my S4?
here's what i'm building: aside from completely new internals all series 5 parts in and for the shortblock, besides middle iron housing (middle hous. is s4). s5 parts include counterweights, e-shaft (no difference anyways, right?), rotors and housings.
it's non-turbo BTW... 88 se chassis
i plan on using the front cover and crank angle sensor from my series 4 on the series 5 engine, but of course use the teflon o-ring surround this time. also, the intake, etc, are going to be from series 4, but i'm not worried about intake... can't think of anything there that could cause a problem.
1. now, i've heard from atkins the timing gap for the spark is different between s4 and s5 on the rotor housings. can i still use my series 4 front cover, crank sensor gear, and crank sensor?
2. has anyone else put a S5 engine into a S4 and run into other problems or know of common problems?

Make sure you know about the split air ports on the LIM.
I did the exact oppisite swap. There are a few small diffrences between them. I assume that you are aware of the EGR issue as well. I cannot help you on the spark thing though. Good luck.

great link.
well, looks like what i was planning on doing was right... i had to switch covers anyways... i was just doing it cuz im lazy and already had a new seal on the front s4 one... woulda been a pain in the *** if i tried to bolt on the mechanical omp, haha.
i'm making a block off plate and gasket for egr too, 1/2 inch alum... since my middlehousing is still s4.
what should i know about the split air ports? the swap page says nothing about it.
i think the spark gap difference may only apply to the use of two different series rotor housings in the same engine... which looks ugly anyways. atkins said i'd have def. problems if i did that.
