cos spending a whole day (or more) welding up a muffler is retarded when I can just buy a prebuilt one for like $100. And I bet the one I buy will be better lol.

I think it would be difficult to offset the muffler because of the design of stock FC exhaust prevents it - the stock muffler is offset but only by about 2" and I'm running 3" pipe, there's just not the room for an offset can!

correct me if I'm wrong though.. I could always use the thermal R&D as a presilencer.

Anyone had good luck with flowmasters? Now that I think of it a long time ago I was in a turbo FC with a pair of flowmasters and it was quiet.

because you could make it as large as you want and still fit under the fc.. i like to make stuff myself

a purchased one would however probably work better

Building a baffled muffler is a waste of time - it's just too restrictive.
I've been wanting to build a custom muffler with a center perforated tube, but we're talking something that's going to end up like 4 feet long!
That's a lot of stainless steel wool and fiberglass packing!
That'll be a real bitch down here in Hawaii to get the SS wool.

If you run a presilencer. Full 3", and a fairly quiet but can be good flowing and 3" and all of that catback. Or if single maybe try a extra presilencer inbetween the presilencer and the muffler. I personally have an idea I stole from some porsches.

Alright, this is the same presilencer that racingbeat uses in their turbo back. $94
http://www.racingbeat.com/resultset....rtNumber=16434
Theres a slightly smaller version of it too

However on J-Rats car, he has 3" dp/mp straight through w/ the RB turboback catback only. And it was aggressive, but not overly loud at all.

Same is on my T2, and it sounds bitchin'. Not too loud at all..but on a halfbridge..I'd say this combo, plus a Borla XR-1.

hahaha, in case you haven't noticed, our cars aren't exactly quiet stock.
trust me I'm 100% stock, and it's pretty damn loud. turns heads when you don't want it to!!!

I suspect you have exhaust leaks

With the stock exhaust on my 10AE the car was dead silent at idle and whisper quiet below 4k.

guys i have a .81 ptrim turbine, custom downpipe, 3" racingbeat turbo resonator, and custom stainless N1 single exhaust and its too loud.

the RB 3" turbosystem resonator does nothing really to decrease the volume of the exhaust, it just changes the tone.

if you want to use an N1 muffler in the back, the key is really to have a nice resonator like the RB one and have another canister style (or offset like ted said if you want it quieter) before the N1... i am actually about to do this if i can find some time. i think i am going to get a magnaflow 3" in/out canister style and put it in half-way down the catback.

I've recently been reminded how quiet the RB exhaust is. Snrub just had his installed and it's only slightly louder then stock at idle and low RPMs. Then get louder as you start to beat on the car (exactly as it should ).

well, I recently put a new y and mufflers, and yeah, it's still pretty loud. when those were replaced, everything else looked good. the cat was replaced about 5-6 years ago.

whisper quiet? try a lexus.

don't get me wrong, it is pretty quiet at idle. (but my p/u truck is quieter) but once you start to rev, we all know the sound!!!

I've got the RB 3" turbo back exhaust and it is not very loud. I don't know what the car sounded like new with factory exhaust, but the RB has a very nice sound and is very tolerable. I don't like loud on the street.

i remember my stock exhaust. very quiet. i had a friend do a WOT drive by so i could hear what it sounded like. the only way i can think to describe it was a rushing air sound. not really much engine sound at all.

my magnaflow muffler is a 5x8 oval case i think. not sure how long it is, but 5 inches thick is too much to the point that i can't ever lower my car. it's tucked as high as possible without hitting the heat shields. it scrapes on some speed bumps if there's a passenger with me.

On S4's, i can vouch for the 2800RPM noise boost. the twin scroll door opens up. I'm confused why it would still do it on S5's.

+1 but with a RB header/presilencer.

Borla for life.

Quiet exhaust? Back to back XR-1's and a Magnaflo 8" muffler.
