building my true dual setup... what mufflers?

ok guys i searched trying to find just what all GOOD mufflers there are to put on the car with true duals without spending alot of money... im buying the header from racing beat that has the 6 port and O2 sensor built into it... then having a shop make me straight pipes to the mufflers... now what kind of mufflers can i buy that will last good and sound good besides mazdatrix or racing beat ones... are there any others that wont just be ungodly loud? thanks in advance

I can't really say anything good about any muffler I have had... I have glass packs right now, and they sound suprisingly good.

But if there is one thing you do, make sure to put presilencers on! It will quit it down, and change the tone ALOT.

A rotary with a header is way louder than any muffler can handle by itself.
It takes the help of a cat or a pre-silencer in the middle.
Also the hot, hard exhaust pulses will bang the baffles out of any but the very best silencers.
The cheap $20 "Turbo pac" silencers I used in the NA did pretty good, although one cracked internally after 7 months, it still worked good.
Also, with pre-silencers, you can use $20 bombs on the end without them getting melted & blown out.

Check out the pics & sound file links in my sig.

Screw presilencers, you have to wear a hearing aid right? Just take it out when you drive

I used a magnaflow 4" round muffler as my presilencer in place of my cat. Took about a month or less to blow the inards out of it and have just a test pipe again. Too bad, it was actually quieter, kinda nice.

True True. For me, I use my stereo to drown out the exhaust. I play it as loud as I can before it starts to distort, seems to work well. However, everyone in like a 5 mile radius can hear me when I'm driving, let alone going WOT

When going to my friends house he can hear me for a couple min before I actually get there. He can tell when I reach the stop signs and then start again, make turns, etc, its rather funny.

I'd say get a set of Borla mufflers and a couple of RB pre-silencers if you want to keep it reletively cheap. Nothing but RB silencers will go on my street cars.

I just use stainless resinators, works fine for me. Though, the size you use will definatly make a difference. My '87 sport has a 22" long, 4.5" wide, and it cut the noise down to a tolerable level even without silencers on my straight through mufflers. Now, on my GTUs i've got some peice of crap 16x4" thing that just sucks. It kills the sound with the silencers in my muffers, but the second I take those silencers out I'm one of the loudest FC's around. (on relatively stock ports, that is. )

Yah yah, I was just joking

As for the loudness. I dunno what you and your friend think is loud, but I'm running an RB header to a 2.5" testpipe to dual 2.5" piping to straight through BOMZ Evo style ebay mufflers. You wanna talk about loud!! I cannot drive anywhere without every single person in cars and on the street looking at me as I go by. When I drive by children they cover their ears, old ppl shake their fists at me, and my neighbors leave notes on my car

My friend's father who is big into v8's and such once asked me if my car had any kind of muffler on it because it was so loud, he had to come out to the drags to bring me a new alt belt once and on the way back he got so annoyed of driving behind me that he said **** it and passed me and hoped I didn't have any more problems on the way back on the freeway.

I dunno, but I've been up that LATE many times before

Yah I just ignore everyone that has a problem with it, it doesn't bother me and I've gotten used to it. Music drowns it out from inside the car at high volumes, and my neighbors have stopped complaining, so meh.

If I were you I wouldn't use presilencers, but that's my opinion

ive buaght the greddy extreme and it is suprisingly queit for its size, i have alot of friends that are anti japanese cars and hate the fart cans, and once they heard mine they loved it, so for power and quietness id purchase the extremes

Yeah..... But that was IDLEING with no mufflers. You should have taken it for a drive, when the engine gets a load on it, it gets WAAAYYYYYYY louder.

There is a trick to get the exhaust to quiet down.
Do a search under my nick and "exhaust", and you should find it.

Mufflers are available from Walker Dynomax and Borla.
