Here's an update:

I am almost done with the dye procedures... I ran out of dye before I finished the door panels, and everything else needs another layer. I know the vinyl is going to be fine, but I will soon find out whether or not the same dye will adhere to the plastic pieces. If not, I'm gonna have to use a different product. I will let you know how it goes.

This is a pic with only some of the parts dyed once over.

Eck! I don't like that color!

And a detail pic...

I'll buy more dye tomorrow. I will also buy a bunch of those black trim push pins since the old red ones were brittle.

pj are you using the duplicolor out of the spray can? i used it on some misc. button/fasteners and the sail panels that faded in my vert. if you are, you may want to put some kind of an enamel over them, not a flashy/shiny enamel. i say this because the spray stuff that i used has a problem when you run your fingernails across it..it leaves an ugly scratchy look. it doesnt scratch off but it leaves a mark, and if you can run your fingernails across it ands it leaves a mark then you other more vulnerable wear areas might become ugly real quick.

i like what you have done and im going to do this in my car soon.

what i want to do is give my interior a more modern look by putting a new texture on top of the old. i plan on using a nice vinyl like you have done. i want to do this on all of the interior. and add in some platinum or titanium looking accents on some of the plastic.

good job so far..i sit in my car often and try to visualize a way to give it a more updated look without getting into highly excessive, labor intensive fabricating....just more of a re-textured and polished/clean look. its really hard isnt it...to try and visualize a way to make that interior look more modern.

good job and good luck!!

i recently decided that my maroon interiour just wasnt pimpin anymore either, so i ripped it all out. i was thinking of the duplicolor paint but wasnt sure. i used that stuff on the back panels and such, and it scratched off, so i would also recomend using a clear coat or enamel over it. i also looked into the vinyl, but havent gotten around to decideing yet. about the carpet, are u just changing it all together or r u dying that as well? i tried a fabric dye from a fabric store and it hasnt worked to well yet. about that sick red color, if u put a coat of white down under the red it makes the red brighter, and it look a lot better, but if u are gonna do that, strip the old paint off first cause it will bubble up. im gonna try to get my dash done soon. maybe ill try the duplicolor first.

How about some installed pics? I want to see how all the dash trim works without the foam to make it flush.

It's gonna be a while before it's installed. I'm gonna be doing some sound deadening on the stripped interior... I will post pics of progress. After that, I'm painting the whole car, sans interior, so I don't have to worry so much about masking.

Well, after the locked throttle fiasco, I returned to my original project. Yesterday, I started spraying DAP expanding foam in all of the nooks and crannies. You can see my approach in the pictures below.

It's been about 16 hours and I need to say, I am pretty impressed. The foam is not completely cured but I had a test I was planning on doing. Before I sprayed the areas in the top of the cabin, I knocked on the flat sheetmetal directly overhead. It resonated quite a bit. Now, some hours later, I knock and the sound dies MUCH sooner. I encourage everyone to try this themselves. I can't wait 'till all the insulation is done. I think I may end-up with the quietest interior on an FC!

The foam weighs next to nothing.

Did you buldge any panels doing that?

The roof support looks to be flexed in the middle quite a bit.

Some show had a segment on using that stuff for the rocker crevaces and claimed significant chasis stiffening.

That foam WILL NOT give a significant increase in Chassis rigidity. Here is the thread in question: Foam Thread

I forget who makes it, but the product I've used is called "Great Stuff." It gets hard as rock aswell. What makes the rigidity is the lack of movement between the panels of the chasis. Anything that is strong enough to not move within the cavity will add rigidity. Structural grade foam might last longer, but how long till you add a cage in one of these cars that see's enough track time to warrant this mod anyways? For <20 bucks this might be a worthwhile investment for someone in the interim.

Sorry for the delay, guys... It's been a long time, but my interior project is nearing completion. I painted my car Nobel Green Pearl (Infini IV style). I painted it myself for a few reasons. First, I wanted to learn. Second, I saved myself about 500 bucks. Third, I didn't want anybody doing a poor masking job on my car. I will post pictures tomorrow.

About the interior. I got the dash back in, and I must say it doesn't look half bad. It is tond better than the old, cracked, maroon dash I had in there before. It looks very different from the original dash-- once again, I will have pics tomorrow. The vinyl shrunk a little in some places. This opened up a couple of the seams and unglued other places. It should not be too hard to address.

I installed Victoria British carpet, and I have my complaints-- but the final product looks good.

Jimmy, the beam across the roof was already like that. That foam really does not have any force while it expands. It's very soft and caused no bulges. It's definately not going to provide any sort of chassis rigidity.

Sorry for resurrecting this thread from the dead, but I finish what I start.

My paint job sucks-- but mainly because of prep work. I fixed all the dents myself but I did a big no-no on stripping the paint on the hood. See, the car had a second, HORRIBLE paint job on it. I would wash the car and when I went to dry it, the rag would be red with paint dust... So, I decided that the best way to go about fixing the chipping paint on the hood was to sand it all down with a sanding disk. Stupid me used an aluminum oxide sanding disk-- on an aluminum hood. Once I started, I decided to not stop, but the hood looks like crap up close. From a distance it looks like a carbon fiber hood. Lol! Besides that, there are a couple of runs. I'm not too angry about it, after all, it is my first paint job. Anyhow, you will see tomorrow.

Id like to know more about your paint job too. Did you buy a high level air compressor? How many coats did you put on? How did the clear coat go, thats all I'm really worried about. Thanks -Evan

Evan, I rented a paint booth for 50 bucks. They provided the compressor. I used my own POS gun. I don't suggest using a home compressor for this sort of job. Paint booths are not that expensive and they provide filtration and a sheltered area for your car. Unfortunately for me, the guy who rented me the booth was smoking in it, so there are some particles in the paint-- I know better now for next time.

I didn't go with a base-coat clear coat system. I decided that for my fisrt paint job, I should go as simple as possible. I kind of regret it now. The final product would have been easier to achieve with a clear coat. It is easier to take care of runs in the paint with a clearcoat. Do the base coat clear-coat system. It should be worth the money.

xxpezzxx, yeah, some of the panels are flaking, and the vynil could look better. I am going to repaint the plastics with Krylon's plastic paint. The vynil should look better after I apply some sealer from foliatec.

I will keep you updated on that.

So, time for some pics...
