I am not sure of the exact weight difference but it is not that great. I welcome the added weight after dealing with the crappy design of the stock Wheel bearing.

to buy a new wheel bearing setup from Mazda is about $350.00 and 3-4 times on the circuit with large offset wheels and you will have to buy them again. The Steel hub setup holds up much better and offers you the ability to change just the bearing and not the whole hub as Mazda sells it.

 

Who sells the steel setup?

 

Dude, when I was with K2RD, we've designed big brake kits that required us to remove the entire hub assembly.&nbsp The aluminum center piece is a work of art and pretty beefy!&nbsp That aluminum piece is easily 5# if not more.&nbsp I've messed around with aluminum and steel billet pieces, and I can safely say an all steel replacement is easily 10# more...

On top of comment on the stock wheel bearings...I disagree.&nbsp The stock wheel bearings hold up to some very heavy duty use.&nbsp You ever owned a GM F-body that killed front bearings every race???&nbsp I didn't say the design was good - I just said they hold up very well for most people short of endurance racing.

There is a way to ream some little notches in the stock hub so you can knock out the bearings and replace them. Mazdatrix has the bearings for like $30 a set and instructions on how to do the cutting and knocking.

 

Takanori Yasuda is there a good forum in japan for RX7's, fc or fd?? I wounder if we could setup a outomatic translation so the forum could expand to japan?

 

I agree that the Hub is a work of art, but sometimes it is annoying when you need to replace wheel bearings and have to buy the whole assembly and pay lots of money.

A steel hub in definatley not a necessary modification It depends on the person I guess. I have ran a full year of races on the same set of wheel bearings.

Maybe I just been in Japan too long where it is cool to change everything on your car whether it needs it or not

I got it to work fine you just have to learn how to understand it write in such a wiered way. like the translation comes out funny. I am going to make that b piller in a few weaks. it sounds like a low cost good upgrade and makes since that sucha large hole should need some suport.

my engine modifications are very generally.
TO4E turbine & intercooler located at frontend.
the max power is about 400ps.

oh, the defuser is very good.my car get more down-force.

Agree - for some reason Mazda only lists the entire hub assembly for the Kouki FC's.&nbsp Over $400 from the Mazda dealer!

how much(km/h) do your car put on top speed in those races? how many corners in those circuits?

my car's top speed is about 250km/h in racing , and there is a lot of corners,the distanse is about 4km/lap.

my stock hubs rattle.....

RX-7's are as big in America as they are in Japan. Yep, they're the same size.

 

Mostly now I do drift. With drift you don't see top speed sustained that long. At Nikko I see about 170km/h or a little over but that is for a very short period of time on each lap. I also race various courses at Ebisu where you can get sustained speeds of over 200km/h.

There are other circuits that I run but those are the longest and fastest. Nikko has 12 turns and since there are 8 courses at Ebisu I cant remember all the turns.

How often do you go through wheel bearings? This seems to be a problem with the FC3S.

i adjusuted bearing ,every 6 months.
and i changed hub ,1set/2-3years.

steel one is very strong.i used it 3years over.
and steel hub is cheaper than aluminium one(mazda genuine).

thus , many japanese FC owners (especaielly,circuit drivers) are using the steel hub.

and my FC's mods of footwork are..
*s-tire(lile a semi racing tire)-225/50/16,245/45/16
*the springs(i selected) are F:12kg/mm and R:10kg/mm .
