Broken speedometer?

I just replaced my transmission from an 87 to an 88 because mine was fried. The car drives fine but the speedometer doesnt move from zero at all. Before I replaced the trans it worked fine. is there really any way i could have installed it wrong, i no its just like a plug. i dont think i damaged it at all so im really having a hard time figuring it out

The cable inside the speedo cable may have been displaced on the speedo side.

drive the car around the block with out the guage cluster on.. if the pin inside the cable doesnt spin its the driven gear inside the tranny.. not a big deal 30 bucks from the mazda dealership.. if it does spin try to line up the pin better in to the cluster
