broken manifold bolt..

Just had a question..
S4/ na

there is a broken bolt on my block where the lower intake
manifold goes...

i replaced the lower n upper gaskets, with new ones..
my question is:
is that one bolt ( its the one of the 2 that sits under the lower manifold)
causing a leak..? bcuz i have no idle..

i was going to try to spray some starter fluid in that spot but im iffy about
spraying rite ontop of the super hott rb headers...

what u guyz think?

I don't know but I've sprayed starter fluid on my turbine housing with the engine fully hot and had no problem. If you want to be careful you can do it on a cold start.

Yes, without all bolts it will leak. The lower intake is surprisingly flexible when only bolted from one side.

well i still cant remove that bolt....i actualy broke an extractor in there now i cant drill it out...any one know wut kind of bit i should use to drill that bolt out i just need to make it hallow...but that extractor i broke in there is made out of some super hard steal, that the bits just wear and wont work...

oh and since it is a stud do u guyz think there is a way i can weld a stud on where the old one is broken at..?

here a pic of where the stud is broken at..

Good God. . . thats going to be a pain in the ***. If it were me, I would try and get that behemoth onto a drill press and try to remove the extractor first using an incredibly strong bit in a clockwise direction. Then use the press in conjunction with a stronger extractor (new) to try and get the last of the bolt out. I've found that many hand held drills (especially battery powered ones) are not strong enough to actually pull rusted bolts out. . . they will bite, but don't have enough torque to get it done.

Whatever you do. . . good luck with that.

I have always been a fan of re-tapping holes so I can fit a bigger bolt. bigger bolt=less chance it breaks.

Call up a few local machine shops. They may have an EDM stud extraction machine that can vaporize the stud.
