Broken clutch fork?

Pedal went dead sunday. I replaced the master cylinder and it was shifting for a while then the pedal went dead again.

I got the car back to my house and inspected the stuff.

No leaks and the slave piston does move outward.

I noticed at clutch out the piston can be pushed about 1/2 inch away from the fork.
Pushing the clutch in makes contact with the fork and then the fork goes back and then glances off towards the drivers side. I think this is why the pedal goes to the floor. The side movement is too much distance for the piston to go and depress the clutch.

The fork should just move backwards right? It shouldn't be deviating to the side right?

How common is a bent clutch fork?

The background is I was racing PIR all weekend. Did some drifting sunday with clutch kicks. Car performed great until I decided to go home. I make it 1 mile from the track and the pedal dies.

Very common. My old FC did the same thing. I replaced everything; pilot bearing, throw-out bearing, clutch, master cylinder, slave, SS line. Took the tranny off for the last time and notice the fork was split right in the middle. I got the clutch fork for free from a buddy, too. However, it was nice knowing all my hydrolic assy was completely brand spakin new.

Craptastic.
Looks like I'm pulling the tranny over the next weekend or two.
Maybe I can get a new one and weld it up to strengthen it.

I'll be doing lots of clutch kicks and shifting racing this thing.

oh, and just to spite me. My daily driver cracked it's radiator 5 minutes after the clutch died.

It's more likely the pivot ball broke rather than the fork itself.

Both of these actually happened to me. The pivot ball snapped off (but stayed in there) and the fork cracked 3 ways where it pivots on the ball. I ended up cutting a piece of 1/8" plate the shape of the fork and welding it on. I could call it an "aftermarket reinforced fork" if you want to buy it

hmm....that sucks. I am having clutch problems right now too but mine I think is just leaking because the fluid keeps dissapearing. I hope I don't have the same problem but doesn't sound like it.
