Broke my freakin CAS stud!!!

I was setting my timing today so I could finally set it right, got it done and tightened the bolt back down and SNAP! I tried for like 3 hours to get the stud out but it wont come out, and I cant drive my car with the CAS just sliding around and screwing with me timing. I have tried using vice-grips to turn it but its freaking stuck in there good, and I cant get at it with the drill to use an EZ-out because of the P/S stuff. This sucks! Any suggestions?

I have a nut on mine-is that what you mean, that you tightened the nut too much and broke the stud?

I wonder if a bead of RTV along the side (where the moving & stationary surfaces are together) would work?

Lol I know, it snapped real easy, I didnt even tighten it that much. By looking at it though, I cant take off the P/S bracket without taking off the P/S reservoir AND A/c compressor first, because one of the bolts for the bracket wont come out unless the compressor is out.

WOW this is a good one, i don't know how you would get at it, without taking off the P/S.

if i'm not mistaken it is a press in stud so you can't screw it out. you may wind up having to either drill and tap the housing or replace the front cover assembly. anyone else ever had this happen?

if i'm wrong then just treat this as a bump for you.

i thought i was the only one. i was setting the timing on the 79 and snap. same thing. it's still broken and i couldn't get it out either with the above methods. haven't tried replacing of the cover because a lack of part and time. i'll be watching this thread.

That would be a bitch to change the timing if you did that.

I would drill it out. Get a fan stud and JB weld that into the cover. That should do the trick just don't go crazy when you tighten it. It also wouldn't hurt to tap the hole so the JB weld has something to grab onto.

I don't know if this would work, but if it's press-in can you pull it? Are there any threads to bite onto to get a puller of some sort on it (like the ones with 3 outboard holes and a center hole, it goes in the middle, 3 other bolts screw throuh the outside to push the whole assembly out)

As for i have no room to speak with being ghetto, Do it the right way.. Don't JB weld your CAS.

I would drill it out, and JB weld a new stud in, or use a helicoil kit and put a new stud in.

I plan on drilling it out and then tapping the hole, the only problem is I dont have a set of left-handed drill bits and dont really want to buy a whole set, I was hoping someone knew how big the stud was.

It is a screw in stud....at least on my S5 TII.

Because...for some reason I have a bolt in there.
