Brillant MAZDA assembly mechanics!!!

I'm DAMN pissed off. This has been nothing but a head ache from the get go. here is the deal. I just installed my new rebuilt MAZDA REMANUFACTURED ENGINE, $2300.00 I might add, and they put the wrong OIL PAN on it. I have a 87 TII and I'm pretty sure that they put a GSL-SE oil pan on it.

There is supposed to be (2) sensors that screw in to the oil pan, (1) is the oil level sensor, and (2) I'm not sure what it is called or does but its supposed to screw right in next to the oil level sensor on the pan. Well the SMART BRILLANT IDIOT who assembled my engine at MAZDA PLANT put the wrong OIL PAN on my motor. Does any one know what the 2nd sensor does? and how it will effect my engine? I know it goes their. But the oil pan on my new engine does not have the hole for the sensor. and the pan sits farther back from the cross memeber then my orginal. GOD you pay all this money for ****!!!. I do not even TRUST to take it to the dealer because they do not know what thety are doing!!!! Please let me know what to do.

1) can I drive the car with out the sensor?
2) What should I tell Mazda?
3) what is the sensor called/do?

The other is the oil thermo unit...You can drive without it, but you should immediately go to Mazda an inform them of their mistake. I doubt they put a GSL-SE oil pan on it, since the 2nd gen style pan is needed to use the middle engine mount. As I recall, j-spec engines don't have this sensor.

You do not need the oil temp switch in the oil pan. It's for the Sub Zero Start Assist System, which Mazda have advised should be removed. As long as the pan has the hole for the oil level sensor, and it physically fits, there's no need to get all upset.

Dittos to the above. All it would be good for if you had it, would be for a potential oil leak.

Let's swap oil pans.

If you really have the GSL-SE oil pan, I'd like to propose a swap. I have an 88 T2 oil pan which will fit perfectly on your engine and it is in great shape.

There is no way you can mount you engine using the GSL-SE oil pan. It just doesn't have the motor mount in the oil pan. If you do have the wrong oil pan, there is also the chance you have the wrong oil pickup tube. I have an 88 pickup tube also.

As for the 2nd fitting on the oil pan. As mentioned it is for the sub-zero starting system. I would remove everything for this system and plug the hole in the oil pan. You may need to fab up a blockoff plate for the connection on the LIM.

Let me know it you want to swap.

Scott

mazda remans come with a resufaced flywheel, new water pump and thermostat, and the oil pan.

they started doing this in the early 80's because they were (presumably) losing motors due to the customer reusing the old thermostat/wp

Does the car still work fine in colder temps with that system removed? I live in Minnesota, so cold starts are important.

It will work fine. The sub zero system has no effect on cold starts. Mazda actually issued a TSB that instructed dealers to remove it...

How do 7's run in the cold anyways? I guess I haven't read a whole lot about it. My buddy says they suck in cold climates.

FYI asuming the "cold start" even works it only engauges below 0F anyways...

but as stated above. mazda has said to remove it because it doesn't do anything.

It's not "cold-start", it's sub-zero". The oil temp has to be below 0degF for the system to operate. How many FC's are ever operated in those conditions?

Mine loves the cold. And winter air gives her a bit more zip.

Go to ALLDATA.COM and subscribe. There you will find the servive bulletins a other information.

Even better.....get the fsm and do it yourself in ten minutes. You'd have to pay me to go to any service facility and sit there and wait. Life's to short for sitting/standing in lines.
