Question Break In Period

I just, this week, picked up my '88 Turbo after the engine was rebuilt. The mechanic told me to keep the reves below 4000 for the first 1000 miles. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

some say 1000, some 500. make sure that this is variable rpm driving, not highway. all your parts start to "mate" to each other during breakin and if done properly, your engine will last longer and gain a bit more power.

I always heard that you drive it careful and under 4000 RPM for the first 200 miles, and then add 1000 rpm for every 100 miles.

The thing you want to avoid is using the cruise control, and driving at a single RPM for any long periods of time.

My SP break-in was:

under 4K RPM for 500 miles variable engine speed.
change oil and filter. check engine for any signs of leaks.
up to 6K RPM for 500 more miles variable speed.
change oil and filter. check engine again for leaks.
If there are no leaks then you're good to go.
