best way to find out is pull your wheels off and inspect them. there is no sure way to tell unless you look to see whats causing it. check to make sure the rotor isnt significantly worn in one spot, and the amount of pad left is thicker than the plate that its attached to.
do it right away, if the pads are gone they'll make you need new rotors if you let the metal grind, even is you had enough to turn them down and use again. i made the mistake of ignoring the noise for a while, cost me over $100 for new rotors i could have prevented needing.
