Brake Squeal

87 TII... I have a pretty horrible (loud and fairly consistent) brake squeal. Ive got all new rotors/pads, new reman front calipers, new hardware. On light braking its REALLY loud (coming to a light) and on hard braking i can still hear it. I didnt change the rear calipers they seemed ok. I also cant tell where its coming from, sometimes i get like a 3d effect which to me says its coming from all over the place... Any ideas?

jack the car and spin the wheels trying to isolate which wheel is causing it and disassemble and inspect everything to be sure it is assembled correctly. if there is no visible problem and you used cheap brake pads, the issue lies in the material of the pads, also beveled pads will help prevent brake squeal but sometimes it is just anavoidable due to driving conditions or driving habits.

I see this alot with Nissans... Sounds like cheap pads. There is grease you can use on the back of the pads that might help... Ask any autozone guy and they should be able to get you some.

I've heard your not supposed to run new pads and rotors. First break in the pads with the old calipers assuming they're in ok shape, then switch the rotors and break those in with the newly bedded pads. This will avoid squeeking and uneven ware.

Cheap metallic or ceramic composite brake pads?
Might it be a pebble that got in between one of the pads and rotor?

I hear that brake dust can also cause the brakes to squeal.

Are new "anti-squeal" shims included in a hardware kit?

I would probably agree with the cheapo pads, in that case i guess i'll just deal with it and put higher quality pads the next time i need em.

I think you're actually supposed to re-use them... I assume FC brakes have them, at least...lol
