yea i have a 90 gtu and am in need of some new brake rotors but i am having a tough time finding them... they're all for the 4 pot front and vented rear rotors. any links would be a great help. thanks.

 

Perfect time to convert to 4-pot, vented rear.....its easy and should only and might not be that much more money than buying the rare rear rotors.

If its and S5 GTU the fronts are the same as the 4-pot cars.

 

Any while your at it, just upgrade to slotted rotors. Power slot rotors are actually cheaper than stock rotors from mazdatrix.

You should be able to find them new at any good parts supplier, if you want upgrades I would recommend KVR, they are readily available and not TOO bad price wise - however maybe in the states you have better connections

 

Actually I think he said he has a hard time finding rotors and teh only ones that he can find are for the 4 pot modles. Seems about right considering the S5 GTU didn't come with 4 pots.

But in all honesty you shouldn't have that big of a problem, I can find rotors all the time.

 

S5 front rotors in a 4-pot system are the same as front rotors in a single piston caliper system. The official parts manual lists one front rotor regardless of the caliper type. Perpaps that's why you are having a problem finding different front rotors? Ya think? Do a search and check out the parts manual pages I uploaded recently.

 

i'm pretty sure that disc brakes don't have rotors.

im sorry, but how can i convert the rear brakes to tII rear brakes? is there someplace i can buy a kit or do i hafta find a scrapped tII and swipe those ones? thanks again.

oh yea i can find the front rotors no prob. its the rears that i can't find too easily. i was lookin at the power slots until i saw that they only fit the vented disc models... bummer for me.

 

Well, you're pretty wrong.

 

Do a search for 4-pot and you will find the answer to your questions. See the quote below from one of those threads.

Be aware that some models other than the TII also had the 4-pot brake systems. The base models did not. You can pick up most of the components on eBay or possibly in a salvage yard. You can also purchase the components from MazdaTrix.com if money is not a consideration.

"There are three factory brake setups (at the wheels) on FCs.

4 bolt, single piston front and rear disks (found on base S4 cars only)
5 bolt, single piston front and rear disks (non vented rears) (found S5 cars only)
5 bolt, 4 pot front, single pot rear, 4 wheel disk (vented rears) (found on both S5 and S4 cars)

As far as the differences and similarities between the two 5 lug setups:
The front rotors are the same.
The rear soft lines are the same.
The calipers from either setup will bolt onto the other.
The rear rotors are different
The rear calipers are different.
The front calipers are different (DUH).
The front soft lines are different and not interchangable IMO.
The front 4 pot calipers require a small hardline mounted to the caliper and the strut. The single pots do not.

It is a huge upgrade to go from the 4-bolt to the 5-bolt 4-pot setup. As the 4 bolt brakes are aweful, I used to burn up calipers, pads, and/or rotors every other month on my 87base with the 4 bolt brakes. They didn't last half a day at the track no mater what pads i used.

The upgrade from S5 5-bolt single pot to 4 pot with vented rears is a minor upgrade, but important if you use your car at the track. I don't think there is alot of benefit for a street driven car between these two setups, but some."

www.mazdatrix.com has braided stainless steel brake lines. also you can find drilled/slotted rotors on ebay for like $120 all four. i bought some and they work great and look awesome

Just because no one's mentioned it yet.
The pads for the "sport brakes"(4-pot front, vented rear) in the FC are the same as FD pads. I bought some Porterfields for an FD and they fit perfectly on my FC.

Hey I have a complete TurboII rear brake assembly for sale.
$90. thats for both sides.
Includes low mileage pads and rotors. These are complete bolt up units.
