Brake Problem

88 SE

My front right brake is squealing.

It only happens if the car is going dead straight and when turning right. When turning left, ther eis no squealing. When I put on the brakes, no squealing.

Pads are fine. They had a lot of pad still left.

But when I checked, the outer pad's "metal cover thing" was really loose and fell off the pad. I'm not sure if this could cause the problem.

I just want my brakes not to squeal.

Thx.

Look at the wear indicators on the brake pads (The little copper strips that rub the rotor) and see of they are rubbing the rotor.

The metal cover thing is the anti-rattle clip, I think! Something is rubbing, look for metal to metal contact everywhere. The only place that should be shiny is the faces of the rotor..

Just be sure there is nothing wrong with piston/brake line. Check right front pads, and left front pads. If wearing the same they should be ok. Piston should be able to be pushed back into bore easily. Place some anti squeel solution on back of pad in front of piston, so as the piston is insulated from the metal backing of the pad. The pads move ever so slightly causing the squeeling from the back side of the pads. When you apply brakes, pressure keeps pads from moving.
Hope it's clear.

You can also use some kind of anti squeal compound on the back of those shims/pads.
