I was checking out my brake lights today because I know something is not right with them and I need help in figuring out what could be causing the problem and how to fix it.

When I hit the brakes only the top lights on each far side will turn on on the top (middle dont go on), one side side looks brighter than the other also (maybe wrong bulb?)

When i turn on the lights for like I am driving at night all the lights will turn on , on the top though.

Are all the top lights suppose to go on when you hit the brakes ? What lights are supposed to be turning on? (just the outside on the top, just the middle on the top , or both middle and outside)

could anyone show me how the pieces in the tailights should be put in (there are whitish connectors and black ones).


The thing is, sometimes any of the lights will shutoff for no reason like somethings loose but the bulbs are securely in , I know that.

I will have to hit the back of the taillight for the light to come back on, sometimes it wont even come back on...the middle light above the tailights will also shutoff on me too and not come back on too, along with the lights that light up the plate not coming on ..but if i hit the back of the car with my flat palm theyll light up for a brief second then shutoff.

What is causing my problem ? Could I have the wrong lights installed in the tailights ? What wires should I check ?

This has been a problem ever since I redid the entire body main harness reinstalling another one from a parts car, along with a few other small problems, liek when I hit the brakes all the gauges light up also.

I dont know what the problem is and would greatly appreciate any help and if there is anyone locally in Georgia that could help me out that would help alot.

Edit - I assume I have a short , bad ground or something...I have no clue where it would be or what could be causing the short, so any help would be good.

 

Saw this on another post "Does your hand brake light come on, the one on the idoit cluster, when you press the brake pedal? If that is the case then you have bad bulbs"

My hand brake light isnt even coming on when i pull up the handbrake for some reason, but when I hit the brakes a light on the idiot cluster comes on that says stop and shows a picture of a light like its turned on. (dont know what this means but im sure its a sign that something isnt right)


Edit - ok upon searching like I should have I found the stop light on the idiot cluster is basically telling you bulbs are bad in the brakelights so im pretty sure this is my problem. Iplan on replacing all the brake lights

Also Icemark said that it can be a cpu that needs resoldering, what cpu is this and how would i know if thats my problem (im guessing if i replace all the lights and still having the problem its the ecu needing resoldering, if not somthing else)

So hopefully i have my lights hooked up wrong or something, there isnt anyone that has a pic of how they should be hooked up and all ?

 

Sounds like you have some burnt bulbs or the wrong ones in there. As for the handbrake light not coming on when the handbrake is on it's probably just shitty soldering in idiot cluster, everyone has that problem at some point. If the handbrake light flashes when its not supposed to it also means your leaking brake fluid.

 

All the lights will turn on for the tailights but they will turn on and then later cut back to off on random lights on the top for the brakes.

 

Ok im pretty sure replacing the bulbs fixed the problem , my stop light no longer comes on when i hit the brakes
