Brake Fluid Reservoir woes

So my master cylinder decided to spring a leak on Monday on the way home from work and with some careful driving I made it home safely.

I ordered a rebuilt Master Cylinder and it arrived today, I pulled everything apart with no real issues, but when I went to put it back together and no matter what I tried I can't seem to be able to get the reservoir back on regardless of how much lubrication and force I use.

I'm worried I'll break the reservoir if I keep trying, does anyone know any good tricks to get these on?

Sometimes the bottom of the plastic Reservoir wont seal and leaks at the bottom. Not sure if thats what you mean. I popped mine off and added some RTV sealent and put it back in. It fixed the problem so far.

Not what I meant, I simply can't get it to go in all the way.

I get it started but it gets stuck about halfway in, I've literally put all my weight on it and it still won't go in. I'm no lightweight either.

Do you have the rubber grommets in the MC or on the MC bungs?
Whichever way you are now, reverse it and see.
BTW, only use brake fluid as a lubricant for this.

I couldn't get it, figured I'd have my dad try, he couldn't get it so I decided to have a shop try (which is something I despise doing) they couldn't get it in either. Figured that maybe I got sent the wrong part, so I go back to the parts store to return it and the guy there spends like 30 seconds looking at it and then just pops it in without really trying.

.... all I have to say is that I laughed my *** off, went home, drank a beer and then curled up in the fetal position and went to sleep wondering why the hell the guy was working the parts store.

He's either squandering a plethora of talents or it was dumb luck. I literally laughed out loud when I read the last post.

And it could have been worse, you could have gone through 3 master cylinders. All pitted internally. Live in nz with no new available so I have to get it Resleeved. Oh joy.
