<Bragging> My '90 Vert Score

65k original miles. EVERYTHING works. Starts every time. New tires, new brakes. Runs like a new car. Got 24-25 mpg on my last few tanks. Using it as my new daily.

Picked it up for $3k. I love the south and their ridiculously nice old cars. Anyone else find a score this nice???

the automatic explains why you got that price... normally a vert in that condition would be at least 4 or 5 thousand with a manual.

make sure you get on it once in a while to keep the carbon from building up. I'd just leave it stock and keep driving it.

No.

It'd be an excellent turbo swap candidate. or at least 5 speed swap.

Damn... That's a great find, man!

I got a 90 Vert, too, with only minor (well, minor to me) problems.

Nice find. I just nabbed a red 89 vert with no rust, 146K on engine, MT, all original, excellent condition minus a dozen small dings in the body, worn leather seats, a badly repaired 2 inch long seam break in the ragtop & a cracked windshield for $2k. I figure about a grand more will bring it up to "quite respectable." Next year's project.
Presently battling a 7K RPM top-out @ 80 MPH. Fuel filter was a little dirty, but that didn't change it. Actuators were a little sticky, so I freed them up a bit. That didn't do it. So now I'm thinking clogged cats (?).
...Breaker-bar time!

I would have to be a total idiot to swap a T2 or 5 speed in that nice of an original/low mileage car. There's a reason why a large portion of the population thinks FB/FC RX7s are unreliable beater high school rides. You start swapping, you start taking short cuts and making "improvements." Sometimes a really nice N/A auto is okay too..... JMO at least. I freed up the 5/6 actuators and the MOV yesterday and it at least has a little punch. The engine is ridiculously clean looking at everything I pulled apart and looked at. I have mazda service records dating back to when it was new. I'm the 3rd owner I think.

Kick ***! Glad to hear that it's all working out, for you!

As far as 'improvements' go, yeah, I agree. Most of the time when people are making (what they think are) 'improvements,' they don't always follow through with things and take ridiculous short-cuts.

A low-mileage, Auto is a better food-group than a modified, high-mileage, any day.
