BOV on stock TII? SEARCHED

I've been under the impression that it's not possible to put an aftermarket BOV on a completely stock TII, due to the fact that on the stock computer, with those hoses rearranged, it won't start. I recently came to find out that there was one parts maker that made a BOV with the necessary parts to hook straight up to the stock system, but make a beautiful air release sound. Anyone know who this manufacturer is/where I could buy one? I've seen one on e-bay for around $150, but i looked again today, and couldn't find it. Thanks.

u can put any bov on a stock TII, however itl back fire every time u shift until u get a standalone because the computer is delivering fuel to the engine thinking that the air now being realesed into the atmost phere is being resurculated into the intake like it is stock.

couldnt have put it better myself, although it wont nesesarily backfire just it does get rich and rich conditions can cause backfiring. i have mine vented to atmosphere and it usually does not backfire. depends on your exhaust setup

... Okay, but I'm looking for a blow off valve that first directly in replacement of the stock one. All the hoses that are used in the stock one, are used in this one, and it looks stock.

what you need is a go fast bits steath FX or a decpetor pro. search it on google. there primo and allow you to adjust how much you want to plumb back or vent.

They are washers that you can put behind the bov spring to make the blow off valve not leak at idle. it increases spring tension.

ok, no. I'm looking for a blow off valve that literally plugs into where the stock one is. Not onto an intake, or anything like that. It's literally take stock out, put new one in. This is for an S4, by the way.

a less costly alternative:

back when I had my 88 TII, I went to Home Depot and bought a plastic one way valve in the plumbing section for like 6 bucks.. you'll need a few more parts to hook it up tight but it made a cool sound. It's a fun DIY project too.

o yeah, completely a stock replacement (may even use a stock piece or 2). Sounds like just what you want.

the washers are the adjustment on the rfl bov...if you are running higher boost you may need to add a washer so it dosent leak boost when its not suposed to

What is this the newbie thread? If you want some descent sound just unplug the stock BOV, plug the hole in the Turbo intake duct that you unplugged, and vent it atmosperhircaly. For more sound buy a real greddy BOV type S,RS, or R and I'll sell you a stock replacement pipe that goes from the turbo to intercooler with a flange built into it to fit a Greddy BOV for 50.00. It will bolt right into the stock set-up no problem. Just plug the TID. Also, to say that if you vent your BOV atmosperically it will back fire everytime you shift is the most rediculous thing I've heard in about a month. For a refference on my pipe check out this link https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ight=blitz+BOV . It looks just like that pipe but with a flange for greddy.

I really want to try venting my stock bov, I asked on this forum last year about ways to make the stock bov louder but i never got this response and i want to do this because i love the distinct sound of the stock bov. I just have a couple questions... 1. after changing the stock setup to vent to atmosphere, can it be changed back? 2. what is this talk about running rich after installing an aftermarket bov or venting to atmos.? cause i've looked into getting an aftermarket one and my car is completely stock '90 TII. 3. How is the procedure done?

You can always return the stock BOV back by plugging in back into the TID. Just use something to plug the TID when you unplug the BOV that you can remove later. I don't know waht this running rich stuff is either. I ran my car with the stock bov venting atmosperically for a while and had no problems. Either way, running richer is better than leaner.

You can adapt any aftermarket bov to work with a stock TII without having any adapters or welding any flanges. Just takes some afro-engineering.

Heres what I did:

The stock bov sits on a peice of vac cable that goes from the metal intercooler hard line into the stock bov and then it plugs right into the TID. So that it recirculates.

Take the stock vac line off and go to any auto parts store. They wont have vacuum line thats bigger than the stock peice. Or atleast the ones around me didnt so ask them to see all the universal coolant hoses. Buy one thats fits snug over the vac line.

Also purchase two screw type hose clamps.

Plugs the stock vac line back into the intercooler hard line. Still using the stock clamp that was on it. Attach the weld on fitting to the new bov. Take the coolant line, cut it to a few inches. Put it on the flange to the bov. Put the screw type clamp on it and tighten it good. Attach the other end to the stock vac line coming off the intercooler , put the clamp over it. Disconnect the stock vac line on top of the stock bov and attach it to the new one.

Leave the stock bov in the TID. This way theres no hole left to plug and if you ever have problems with your aftermarket bov you can just rip it off and clamp the stock vac line back into the stock bov. And its as easy as 5 seconds.

I see it as 10 bucks well spent with no need to weld anything or take **** off and easy reversability if needed.

Thats how I attached my RFL and it seems to be working great. Plus back fires and flames are cool in my book.

Hope that helps. If anything I can take a pic of how its set up. But once you look at it , its damn simple.

Ok, there is a little BS in this thread. Here are the facts for you, I actually just got done testing three BOV's and have all the info you need.

First, the stock BOV cannot be vented to atmosphere without modification. The stock BOV is actually not a true blow off valve, it is a Bypass air valve that lets air in at idle. It is used so the motor can pull air in easier by bypassing the turbo's compressor wheel, that is one of the reasons that it pulls from behind the MAF, so that the ECU can meter the air and fuel correctly. If you vent to atmosphere and plug the hole to the stock airbox, the car will not start or idle properly because the motor is getting ALOT more air than it can see and correct for. If you can make it work with one way check valves then gratz, but I don't know how much boost the stock BOV can take before it just starts leaking to bad. My suggestion, don't do it.

Second, I tested a Blitz BOV. It is the aluminum one that can have multiple sound horns attatched to it. After thorough testing I can say this. It is crap, do not use it. It blings and it makes a whoosh but my turbo was surging AT STOCK BOOST LEVELS. It was slow to respond and didn't vent boost fast enough. If it can't take all 5.5 psi I was tossing at it then I don't want it.

Third, I tested the HKS SSQV kit that was made for the FC. It is about ~300 after shipping. I am honestly blown away by this BOV. It makes an aggresive sound (that can be made louder or quiter depending on inserts) and I have not surged on this BOV yet. It vents boost quickly and effectively. It also looks extremely clean after the install. Also, due to the design of the BOV(pull type vs. push type) it cannot leak under boost. The more boost you toss it's way, the tighter it closes. It also can open in two stages to vent alot of boost FAST. I highly suggest this BOV for anyone that is looking for an aftermarket BOV.

I hope this helped.

Another common problem with BOV's is that people tend to "T" off the BOV vacuum line.
Try not to do this!
This just causes the BOV not to open properly.

Thanks Boostmaniac for that info. I was first looking at the HKS BOV full kit but I wasn't a fan of the high pitch chirp i hear from some other cars and online videos, but mechanically it sounds like it does what it is suppose to do very well and it does look nice. I heard the sound is different pending on how much boost is being ran so im wondering if you get the higher pitch sound when running lower boost or higher boost? I have an S5 so i run around 7psi... i think that's right cause its all stock.

And any thoughts on the apexi twin chamber?

Hey Josh I found a greddy bov kit on ebay for like 225 or so shipped brand new. call me up.
Chooks, my friend has a apexi twin bov and all i can say is it wouldn't be on his car if it didn't rock. he has had a lot of 7's and just built this n/a conversion to TII, and has a FD also. I am upgrading from my stock bov and am researching this topic and should have installed soon. you can check my car out in 2nd gen for sale, SimplyComplex won't mind that last part, we're on the same team.

I have a greddy type-s kit on my stock 87 tII and it runs fine, doesnt run rich, or backfire. I dont know how your gonna get a bov that looks stock but is loud.

And you can always make a pipe that re routes the bov to the stock intake. not that hard.

Yeah, I have all the answers you need for this one. The "stock" insert creates the high pitch sound right around our boost levels. If we up the boost a little more then we get the slightly more aggressive sound.... but......

If you aren't a fan of the high pitch sound, another insert can be had for ~20 dollars. Ther are multiple ones ranging from ZOMG LOOK AT ME RICING!!! all the way to damn near silent. My friend has the latter one and his BOV is EXTREMELY quiet, but it is still there. On another note, his also has no whistle or high pitch sound to it at all. Definitely look into this as a serious option, you will NOT be dissappointed.

As for the Apex'I twin chamber, I have not had a chance to test this or see it in action, but on paper it looks to be a solid BOV. If you get a good price on one I'd suggest giving it a shot.

Avoid Blitz like the plague.

Also run on this adadge..... It is better to buy a quality part ONCE.....

Hope this helped.
