BOV Spring too stiff or malfuntion?

I have a GRedyy Type R BOV that was installed before I bought the car. Ever since I have had the car the BOV hasn't made a peep. I just thought it was b/c Im never boost but, I have heard other BOV's blow into the atmosphere under vacuum alone. Is the Spring too stiff or do you think it is installed incorrectly. It makes absolutely no sound. It is set up between the turbo and TB sitting on top of where the stock IC sits, as of now I have no IC at all. thanks.

So wait, you have no IC? As you may know that is not the greatest idea in the world but maybe there is a reason behind it.

Is the BOV vented to atmosphere or is it vented back into the intake stream? It may be vented into the intake stream which might be why you are not hearing anything. Although, having said that, even if it is I would think you should hear something. Loosen the spring all the way if possible and see if it helps.

you can check it yourself.. suck on the signal line (probably the small vacuum line going to it), if it opens, then you're good.

Yeah I know no IC, that is why I am not boosting, ah!!!! I do not have a TII hood so there for no stock IC, have a jpec in the gtus' bay so that's the reason. However it is impossible to drive w/o vacuum. It vents right into the atmosphere, the flange hooks between the tubing that goes from turbo to the Tb, i have a pic but how do I put it on here?

You have to have boost for the thing to make any noise, otherwise nothing's being vented! And it's obviously too stiff to open only under vacuum!

I can host the pic which I am sure most of us would like to see to understand your setup.

SonicRat pointed out the fact you need pressure to use a BOV but I don't understand how you can not be boosting if you have a turbo motor.

You can e-mail it to me, cosmodonk99@hotmail.com

If you keep the rpms low enough... But anyway, the BOV shouldn't open under vacuum because it's should have an even suction on both sides, both the pressure side, and the vacuum line side, so it shouldn't move at all.

I hope it has the "STD" spring in it.&nbsp If it's the stock spring that comes in the Type-R BOV, you're messed - it will never open under 20psi of boost.

I'll send pic and more info when i get back home tonight. How do I not boost? Just don't give it that much gas, harder to do in 3rd-5th gear but easy in 1st and 2nd. Try it, you'll feel like a grandma but thats what I gotta do till my Greddy gets shipped.

sent him the pic, and I'm pretty sure it has stock spring ARGG. Well I guess I'll just have to sell it and get the Blitz Super Sound or the Apexi Twin Chamber, which sounds better? I like the fact that u can adjust the sound level on the Apexi, or is the Blitz like that as well?

A blitz BOV makes a "whoosh" sound whereas the Apexi makes more of a "chirp"

How much are you planning on selling it for?

Here is a link to the pic:

At least 150, I mean brand new they are 229 so....Would it help and all to try and loosen the bolt on the back of the BOV? Would that make any difference?

Like Ted mentioned, the Type R has a stiffer spring and is meant for high boost application (15+psi).

You can loosen the spring tension as much as possible, but I doubt you'll hear anything unless you're at least boosting 1 bar.

WIth no IC, I suggest you don't do it too often unless you're running on the drag strip with methanol.
