Bouncy idle when clutch engaged

I've got a 91 turbovert with a bouncy idle when the clutch is engaged and the tranny in neutral. it idles perfectly when I disengage the clutch. any ideas?

clutch disengaged= tranny input shaft engaged = power isolated at engine/tranny
clutch engaged = tranny input shaft disengaged = power isolated at engine

The difference is a pretty minimal load. It does take some extra power to turn the weight of the clutch assembly and tranny input shaft.

With the clutch diengaged the engine relys on that extra rotational weight to keep it from bouncing-- the extra wheight is a buffer sorta, which its using. When the clutch is engaged, the engine has less to spin, no buffer to keep the bounce at bay. Re-adjust the bac or rich/idle mix correctly and it won't need the buffer. That should fix it.

hey thanks, will try. It usually bounces by .8 - 1k rpm, although I can get it to hold a very rough idle if I play with the throttle a little bit.l

If you will look at the 89 fsm you'll see the clutch switch on the pedal effects the mixture. Disconnect the clutch switch and see what happens. There's two switches. I don't have the time to see which is the one that effects mixture. Just disconnect and see what effect it has.

Interesting, is this designed for anti-afterburn?

hey, thanks for telling me, thats most likely the problem then. I wasn't able to connect the t2 tranny wiring (came short by a couple inches) and I haven't spliced in any wire to get it to reach yet, thats most likely the problem.....

Is that switch located on the tranny itself? or is it somewhere else?
