Bouncing off the rev-limiter in the rain in 1st gear for first time , fun stuff hehe

So today I was with my girlfriend in my car and it was slightly raining outside and we just went for a short drive to walmart...she loves hearing my car rev up and pushing her into the seat when I go fast.

So today I decided to pop the clutch on a lefthand turn taking off in first gear onto the wet road and low and behold i hear the buzzer going off quite a bit and i look at the tach and it was bouncing off 8000rpm ... im like damn thats the highest ive ever revved this thing, guess i finally found the rev limiter.

Ive never revved that high before maybe ive revved to 7700 rpm twice and I usually shift at 7500 rpm if I do redline it. I wouldnt think shifting at 8000rpm bouncing it off the rev limiter this one time is bad, but i dont think its something you should do very often... what do yall think ?

Where did he say he was proud of it? I hear a question of concern. Why the hell are you overreacting to something so minuscule?

Fully revving out the engine every once in a while is hardly to be of any concern. On a constant basis, or for prolonged periods of time, on the other hand can be detrimental to the engine. I would suggest keeping the redlining for highway merging and tracks and not when you're coming out of a corner on the street(and even more so when it is wet )

Yeah, I hit my rev buzzer yesterday, good times, and it wasn't raining. Still fun. Who cares if it blows it, I bought it to beat it. And I noticed your like 20 minutes away (im in g-ville) maybe we could hit the buzzers together and both blow up at the same time and send enough burning shrapnel over phoenix7's car to send it back to ashes.

I appreciate your concern for me and my girlfriend, but as I said its the first time its ever revved that much to even hit the limiter and I didnt even intend to rev that high.

The rev limiter is put on there for a reason , for one so the engine doesnt blow up and for the reasons you just stated.

To the other guy who said there is no rev limiter, I'm pretty sure every non turbo rx7 has a rev limiter , the rev limiter is higher on the s5 non turbo than on the s4. I believe s5 is 8600 rpm and s4 is 7800 or 8000 rpm (im not sure, but if the tach is inaccuarate and it is really 7800 rpm then my tachs reading is just off).

Oh and for the record my engine is rebuilt so its not like I was doing this on a old motor with high mileage.

As far as how long it did it for id say a second or two at most, i dont know its not like i was counting...i just popped the clutch, heard beep then saw it bouncing of 8000rpm and shifted.

I could be a rude s.o.b like alot of people on here are but Im trying to be nice about this, it is my thread and people are all allowed to have there own opinion.

LOL at ABCDEFb!

It's not smart. Period. Had he done it accidentally then it's a completely different story.

There is no rev limiter which is why I said you're lucky it didn't rev to 9K or 10K and it's WORSE IF you're doing it to a rebuilt motor!!!

eJayCE: I don't know what part of severed limbs and shrapnel in your brain you consider miniscule but I'd like to hear some more.

Hows it worse to do it to a rebuilt motor ? The motor was rebuilt for the reason that the apex seals were worn down and compression was probably low..

Revving a low compression motor with high miles and apex seals that are ready to go is going to blow up much sooner than a motor with low compression and brand new apex seals period...

I think you dont know what youre talking about....the only possible reason a rebuilt motor will blow up revving that high is if everything wasnt in spec when the motor was put together and was basically put together by someone who didnt have the proper knowledge to properly build the motor.

oh and by the way it kind of was an accident because i usually shift at 7500 rpm if i redline and in first gear i usually shift at 7k , i just wasnt paying close attention and it was raining. This is the FIRST TIME EVER that ive done this...

so it's ok to stress and strain a new motor because it's new? You should take better care of your toys.

I didnt dump all this money in my car and work on it for all this time to drive it like a granny.

Rx7s are a fun car to drive and sure your motor will eventually blow up...but would you rather have the motor blow up and be able to say you really to the motor to its max or admit u were to afraid to even make the buzzer go off.

Redlining the motor isnt a bad thing as long as you arent constantly doing it, i redline mine without worrying...because its a rotary motor, why do you think it can rev to 8000rpm and doesnt even have a rev limiter ( if it really doesnt).

Also redlining will burn the carbon out of the motor so it actually has a good thing about it.... never reving past 5500 and never into the redline can actually cause carbon to build up on the rotors/apex seals and cause the engine to blow up sooner.

They wouldnt make the car to rev that high up if everytime it revved that high someone died from shrapnel killing them...if so im sure mazda rx7s would be illegal from being so hazardous.

I also dont plan on bouncing it off the revlimiter again, this was the first and last time...if anything ill shift at 7500 rpm if i redline like i usually do... hp drops off at a certain point in the redline, my motor is ported so it drops off higher on mine but im willing to bet it drops off at 7500 rpm or before.

redline buzzer? yes at least once a day.

Bounce off redline like this guy? NO.

There is a HUGE difference.

You don't have to drive like a grandma but blatant abuse like BOUNCING OFF THE REDLINE is not good for any motor whether it's new or old.

I don't know about you but I worked hard for my money, then I worked my *** off to build my car and damaging my work seems counter-intuitive. That's like building a house and then destroying it at a party ( imagine rock stars, fists through walls, ***** creaming all over my nice furniture, and knocking doors off the hinges.)

Ok, just had to make sure you weren't driving like an old lady. I was gonna fly out to Norcal and show you the joys of driving, then go get some of that good wine you got up there in norcal, then crash at your house drunk in my pee stained underwear (from all the wine). It's a good thing you stopped that unfortunate series of events from happening.

Your S4 N/A pushes your girlfriend back into the seat from acceleration? Does she weigh 30lbs? Or was it going up a steep 60 degree incline? j/k

A daily redline won't hurt the engine, but please, don't just bury the tach for cryin' out loud.

And FWIW....my girlfriend likes my car as well.....but I'd be damned if I'm going to go sliding around on wet public road s while she's in the car! I know better then that...........at the track is another story though....

Its a nonturbo but that doesnt mean it doesnt have any get up and go. Id say my car has at least 180bhp which isnt bad for a s4 na considering its 146bhp stock.

It was only a 1st gear launch i popped the clutch halfway into the turn...so indeed when i popped it the car jerked back , pushing us into the seat...might not push you into the back of the seat much compared to a modded t2 or fd but it sure pushes me more into the seat than my old 105 hp 1990 honda civic along with my stock 1990 nissan 240sx.

well those are shitty cars! Both NA and TII are awesome cars. I love the instant gratification of a modified NA when you punch it but I cannot deny the KICK the turbo makes and the fact that it's an instant smile until I'm home again.
