Talking Bought S5 GTU $750, owner overhted it, wouldnt crnk, was jst fludd, sat 2 yrs, help

Ok guys, like the title says.

I knew a guy in town with an s5 GTU with 17" wheels and brand new tires, tranny and ACT six puck clutch and new radiator. His brother drove it and overheated it, and drove it back home. He tried to crank it back up and it wouldn't start. Said he removed spark plugs and water was on the plugs.

I assumed the motor was blown but I was getting a hell of a deal at $750, the car is worth double that in parts.

I put a new battery in it, cranked it up, took me about five minutes to unflood it and BAM!! car runs like a champ.

It has been sitting for two years AT LEAST, so I need to know what to do about it running. Do i need new gas, something to put in the tank? What all should I check? It still wants to run hot a bit but the coolant buzzer is going off. I am going to fill it and see if it still does it. Any help would be great.

Ok I drove it again with virtually no brakes, I put water into it and could hear it leaking out of something, it is raining like hell right now so I can't tell and it has a hard time starting, like it is flooded or something, if it won't overheat i can drive for more than a few minutes and see if that will keep it from flooding when parked.

My guess from it having a hard time starting, leaking out coolant and it's overheating, that the culprit probably is a coolant seal. That's just my assumption so I could be right or totally wrong. If it turned out that was the problem and your down on your luck monetary wise, you could always try the engine sealant trick to buy yourself some time. Some guys that have done it are still driving on the same engine a few years later. Also for good measure try looking for any vaccum leaks and tps adjustment.

yeah but if it was leaking coolant wouldn't I have a bunch of white smoke coming from the exhaust?

if you took the spark plugs out and water came out of there, id say you have a blown coolent seal. time for a rebuild

clean looking car for 750 tho... i drove my first rx7 with a blown coolent seal for about a year i just took really short trips lol

nice find, i would put new gas in it (93), check the plugs, and check for vacume leaks, then if you can get it idling i would wait for it to cool off and check for bubbles in the filler neck, if you have bubbles then the coolant seals are blown, if not then look for an external leak such as water pump, thermal housing, the radiator its self, etc... my TII started to over heat because the gasket behind the thermal housing went bad and slowly leaked out my coolant, lol.

I was also thinking maybe it was gas that he thought was water as the plug was wet. IDK. What else to check for if it is a blown coolant seal? I thought it would smoke white really bad. And any link to do the fix it trick?

blown coolant seal for sure. I let it run with a bit of water in it and water was coming out of the exhaust, very funny smell and a bit of white smoke. I mean water was getting everywhere from the exhaust. I need to find that trick to seal it if I can.
